    windshield, canada, steve, jeff etc

Bad: My windshield caught a rock and the crack got to be a foot long.
Good: A replacement was available for this (SE-i specific) bronze-tinted glass.
Bad: The ONLY new SE-i windshield left in North America was in Canada.
Good: I have glass insurance on my car, because it was $902.00 C installed.
Bad: Honda Canada would not ship it to the US. 370 miles to Montreal.
Good: Steve (88LXI68) had a sway bar that Jeff (Carotman) needed.
Bad: Steve lives in CT and Jeff lives in Montreal.
Good: I got to meet Steve, a fellow CT 3G, picked up the sway bar for delivery to Canada.
Bad: I couldn't seem to extricate myself from work to leave.
Good: Last weekend I was finally ready.
Bad: Wife's Volvo died at last minute. Wife says ANOTHER CAR NOW!
Good: Quickly found a cherry '04 Passat.
Bad: Was in S NJ (400 mi round trip).
Good: Bought it Sunday, wife was happy, cleared for the trip.
Bad: By Tuesday, bookeeper + wife were unhappy again because I had "shit to do."
Good: I went anyway. 7 hrs, mostly alone on I 87, no speeding ticket (75-90mph). The road goes through the Adirondack Park, the biggest park in the USA. Snow-capped mini-mountains, scenic vistas. Canadian Border guards were friendly (USA versions were cop-like). I didn't get caught smuggling in the sway bar.
Bad: Got lost in Montreal. It was fuckin COLD up there. Like zero. With a 25 knot wind.
Good: Canadians are patient and helpful. Hotel was great, with outdoor swimming pool on roof, great steaks, and close to dealership.
Bad: I decided to go to the casino, spent 7 hrs, lost my ass.
Good: Car got fixed, Carotman got the sway bar, I got home tired but happy. SE-i ran like a champ the whole way and back w/ no problems, cruising 75-80 at night. Weather was very cold but no snow. 800 miles in two days. My Accord is now an international traveler.
Bad: The next time I or someone else want an SE-i windshield it's gonna have to come off a wreck.

Lol damn... you went through all that to have the bronze tinted windshield?

I guess if insurance was paying for it, then that's cool.. But for me, with the amount of rocks on the road in calgary there is no point in trying to get the bronze, I just stuck with the normal blueish glass.

Maybe if I lived up there I wouldn't bother either. I spent many strategic moments on the way out of Montreal staying away from these huge gravel trucks. Down in CT, it's just the suburbs. No industrial vehicles, mainly.

A rental car vs. my Bilsteins/Eibachs/leather/Bose? Think of the journey as the destination.

Thanks again for picking up the bar.

Too bad we couldn't meet, I'll blame the casino night for that. The weather was insanely cold too that week!

Your car is very nice and clean. That windshield was awesome. The service guy told me that the windshield installer took REAAAAL care when he installed it. He didn't want to break the last windshield available I guess :p

The Adirondack park is awesome. My favorite part is when you pass by the town of Moria. My friend and I were yelling like the dwarves in LOTR: "ARRRRGH, Mines of Morrrrrria!" all the time. I guess we're just geeks.

You're right about the US Border guards, they're not the friendly type.

Oh and like OOPS, I didn't know that I had to get an insurance rider for going to Canada. Was uninsured the whole time I was out of the country.
