better air for my carbed lx

Anyone got any tricks up their sleeve for better air on a carbed LX? The only thing I've tried is the redneck V8 trick where you flip the air filter cover upside down so the filter is exposed. The exhaust was much louder and it did seem a tad more responsive, this is no bs. The only problem was an awful vibration noise because the upside down air cover would rattle off the bottom of the hood. I've been thinking about putting something between them to kill the rattle. Is there any damage I can do with this trick? What are some other things I can do for better air?

Thanks, don't care about getting flamed btw, I did search first but obviously with the wrong keywords. Flamers flame away.

If you don't live in cold weather you can pop out the EFE screen (Waffle screen on brown carb spacer)

while it hurt cold start drivability, i popped my EFE screen out and filled the coolant passage with JB weld. once the car warmed up, it ran fine, but i can't speak of even winter in florida driving, as that car only lasted me through the summer that year.
