    88 accord dx

well last year i went hydroplanning into a sign about 75 mph cracked the radiator and ended up warping the head.. I bought a Grand am se its alright for an everday car but im looking for osmething to have a little fun with. I was looking at dropping a h22 into it but from the looks of it seems thats its a pain the arse..

So now i have to figure out a new engine to drop in it.. But id unno what to put in it. And im going to end up installing a turbo on it. I was looking at the b20 with the b16 heads.. or does someone reccomend me looking at anything else..

well you have a carbed accord. you have to convert to EFI before you can do any B series with turbo install.
You can just sell the car and get yourself EFI accord.
you still have to make custom engine mounts for B series engines, lets not forget mix and match axels, custom shifter linkage and custom wiring harness.
you want a car that can bolt up B20/Vtec engine, get yourself civic or integra.

it'll be equally as hard to put an h22 in as a b-series. both will require a custom wiring job, you to convert to obd-1, and efi. and both will require custom engine mounts, shift linkage, and axles. i'd suggest going on other forums where turbo h-series and turbo b-series are talked about more in depth so you can get a feel for which one is better under boost before you make a decision. but i'll tell you that at this point in time, since no b-series mounts are available, one will be just as hard to install as the other.

I have the money well will. Now you guys got me thinking of just trying to buy another honda and sell my old one. If i did try to go the route of dropping a h22 or b20 what would be better. H22 are quite heavy but its a nice engine.. b20 from what i read are comparble and lighter.. I dunno i would really like to keep my honda though it was my first car and i still like it, but on the other hand i dont want to get into a project that im not able to finish or handle.

switching the car over to fuel injected shouldnt be that hard but having to rewire the harness im sure would be a pain. IM just looking to get my sefl into a project to keep me out of trouble since i just found out my girl is pregnant heh.. I might be getting over my head. Im going to look around for another honda. they got quite a few over here in a police impound that im going to go look at.

What all can a h22 drop into that doesnt require custom mounts. Becuase im not sure if i can make them even if i did i heard trying to get it lined up is a real pain let alone i would have to make some room for it to even fit. I could get help with them im sure from my uncle hes freaking awesome on what ever he does.

the last question for now is what could i easly drop into my honda that could compare to a b20 or come close? i would liek to get away from carb becuase for one the carb on my car im sure needs to be replaced and i would just rather switch it over to fuel injected then replace the carb..

sorry i like to ramble on about differnt things at once. I just want to get a project started just looking at all my options....

b20b/b20z from the cr-v or are you talking the actual 1st gen b20a made specifically for our cars.

i would just swap in a b18...the b20 is too hard to find here. the b18 would be a nice set up. you will still need custom mounts

yeah, b18c5 is a good motor too. nice power, over the 100 hp/liter mark na. plenty of engines aspire to that end. and it could probably end up being more reliable than a cr-vtec.

hmm would it be a bad idea to buy a used motor and rebuild it?

my friend, a new b18c5 (or almost any motor, for that matter) straight from honda (if they still even have some in stock) will probably run you around $10,000, depending on how complete it is. so it all comes down to your wallet. but any motor you buy from an importer, craigslist, etc. will be a used motor. depending on the condition it's in (a good check would be a compression test) would determine if you want to just go ahead and rebuild it first or if you can run it awhile and it can be alright.

    Re: 88 accord dx

get an efi parts car. that'll be your cheapest bet, because of the amount of stuff you have to pull. trying to pull all that from the jy will probably end up being close to the cost bc they'll probably charge you individually. just find a crashed lx-i or se-i near your area.

    Re: 88 accord dx

lol looks like it would be better to buy a efi car already.. considering i I think im going to try to get a police impounded one ;p. Just started looking up parts and the alternator let alone will cost over 50 and theres about 20 other parts i have to buy ;(..

    This is quite dissapointing.

    yeah...
if you jumped on the 3g accord thinking you can swap something in real quick and have it running low 13's next weekend, you're in for a rude awakening. the 3g accord is very much an anti-modifications car. most things on it have to be custom. so if you want something to have a shitload of bolt-on parts for, ditch the accord and buy a civic/integra/rsx/4g+ accord/celica/2g-3g eclipse/240sx.

but unless you own a machine shop, everything will still be 'bolt-on' per se. it'll just be twice as expensive as other platforms. save a delta cam. you can get it less than $100. but to be of some help, going fast costs money.
