Does this carb have more than one adjustment for mixture? My shop manual shows one screw to tweak.
Also, I appear to be running rich (black soot inside outlet from muffler) and am tempted to turn the mixture screw in a touch. MPG ain't very good, but emissions test passes.

Ever have Double Bastard? I want one of those HUGE bottles they sell at the grocery store. They're like $60 though...
I pull St. Ides or OE 800. Drink a 40 and you will be on trip. On your carb. adjustment... I want to say there is only one screw for the rich/lean mix, but I can't be 100%. Man, be careful when you go messing with that carb. and trying to adjust it. DO one thing at a time and remember what you screwed or loosened. Also, run some carb cleaner in your gas tank and throw some Premium in there. Take it out on the interstate and see what clears up. But, don't hit the 40 before your road test!!
Tru dat! Actually, even get some carb cleaner and run your engine and spray that stuff down barrels. You'll see the barrel clean up quite a bit and it should smooth things out a bit. Worked for me...
She loves to fly down the road as she is, just a stumble off of idle from a stop. Just the fuel economy makes me frown. Funny thing - the car sounds like it is drowning - audible gurgling coming from the carb? Strange car...
Accelerator pump is bad maybe? The carb I'm shipping you this weekend has a good one on it.... at least last time I used it.
This carb is about the fourth one my shop installed - all are rebuilts from a supplier to the repair shop community. The first three he did not like. Cannot recall why. Damn carb looks like it is about a week old, though. Very clean. Accel pump does work - I gave it several pumps while the air cleaner was off and the motor was not running.
So maybe there's a problem in the fuel system? Fuel pump weak or plugged filter?
