Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???

As some of you may know, I joined this site for a few basic bolt on mods, and now I find myself hooked...damn it (lol). Here's what I've done:
    CAI
2.25 exhaust w/out the cat and high flow muffler
    Colt Cam (stage 1)
    Pacesetter Header
So here's my question. Who can tell me what 5sp gives the best performance and will fit into our cars (88 ex-i) with the least amount of trouble?

Integra Hybrid. 1-4 from the Teg, and 5th from the Accord. Accord bellhousing, Teg trans housing.

This is what I hope to run.

Just buy a clutchnet flywheel and clutch, if you really want the best Teg gears into A20 tranny, and throw in some new bearings, and syncros while your there. Most gearbox's are quite worn and i wouldn't bother just chucking one in as you could soon discover it's got issues and have to take it out again!! Just my 2 Cents worth as you Americans say!!

yes it is. just make sure it is from EFi and not carbed one. if you get carbed one, you have to use flywheel and clutch from carbed lude.

Re: Bar None What's the best 5sp Tranny???

Im running the teg 1-4 gears and the accord 5th in the accord case. shorter gears = great for na Theres a big jump from the teg 4th to the accord 5th. if Im like at 4000 rpm in fourth and shift to fith my rpms drop down to like 2700 or so. big jump compared to the usual 700 rpm or do between gears.

when I got turbo im gonna put the stock accord gears in and just get like a sllightly taller tire for the higher gearing effect. (215/40/17)

oh the carbed trannies are geared longer than the fi models which is better for turbo and hih speed driving but kill your accelleration

Why not just go with a 1st Gen Teg as the entire Trannie? What's the difference between the Teg's 5th and the Accords 5th? And is the Teg's trannie a straight bolt in?

you cant do that....they are totally different engines....only the gears are interchangeable.

I do 75mph at 3000 rmp in 5th gear. The way my tranny is geared is multiply the gear you in (5th) by 5 and then then multiply that by how many thousand rpm's your doing (so 3000 rpm's is 3) and you get your speed. So 5x5=25 and 25x3=75 so 75mph or if im in 1st gear at 6k rpms 1x5=5 5x6=30 so in 1st gear at 6000 rpm's im doing 30mph. It works like this in every gear, with every speed and at all rpm's. Pretty much i know the speed just by knowing what gear im in and the rpm im at or what rpm's im at if i look at the speed and know what gear im in. Is everyones like this? Or am i the only one who got bored to do the math, lol.

yeah but i was talking about the integra gears. and it does sound about right...cuz when i redline 1st gear im at like 35mph 2nd gear is like 70mph and 3rd is like 95

Oh, im sorry i didnt answer your question at all. I would do what bglad said and just go with the lude tranny, it will be pretty much a dricet bolt on since it comes from 85-87 preludes that also have the A20 motor. As far as your mods go you should get a ADJ cam gear and blaster coil to finish your bolt-ons.

Thanks Bit. I'm on the list for the Cam Gear and I'll have a look into the blaster coil. Do you actually make any gains with the coil? Excuse my ignorance, but what are your benefits of having a blaster coil?

the coil just smooths your idle...and it gives you a nice spark all over the RPM range...

Yeah, we have at least 2 teg hybrid transmissions running around on the boards. Matter of fact, the Accord 5th gear is a popular mod for the integra guys.
