    shoulda used a tq wrench...

picked up some wheels today...didn't have a tq wrench handy so i used the tire iron that came with the car

my dumb ass got on it to much and this was the result

im 99% sure that my mistake was not puting the lugnut on square with the stud

there 2 were on the right rear wheel when i got into an accident almost 2 years ago..i spun out more then 360 degreese was on my 2nd spin and the right rear wheel slamed into the base of a center divider wall on a freeway offramp..the car slid backwards with the wheel grinding against the wall

    the worst of the 2

    and the other

worst of all in that accident it broke off HALF of one of the original hub caps..ghey

Yea it looks like you cross threaded it causing it to break off. I use the tire iron as well but i don't have any problems.

exactly...tire irons are perfectly safe to use. Always remember to HAND tighten and the bolts on first!

are they broken on the front or the back? if it's the back no problem, just take off the brake drum and drive out the broken one. if it's on the front you are in a world of hurt. I just replaced a bunch of front ones on my wifes car, from the guy who owned it before. I had to cut the lug studs off in sections, drive them out, then machine a flat spot on new ones to be able to drive them in. the worst was a jammed lug nut on the front that wouldn't break. had to slice it up with a dremel and a fiberglass wheel[10 of them]. when I did my front end, everything is ARP now, money well spent.

i dont understand what you mean by front or back

ibought a whole new set of lug nuts 2 weeks ago (pulled those 2 damaged ones off and put 2 new ones on in their place) but haven't put the rest on yet due to the fact that my tire iron is too small (used a 13/16 socket and ratchet to get them on, fit perfect)

i got an 86 DX hatchback on saturday for $100 im just gonna pull the right hub off of it and stick it on my LX-i and not worry about geting a new stud pressed in
