KYB GR-2 vs Tokico Blue

I've always been under the impression that Tokico Blues were slightly better than stock and KYB GR-2 are equivalent to stock stiffness.

But i recently checked the dampers sticky and now it says KYB are 10-15% stiffer than stock, which is similar to Tokico, but KYBs are usually cheaper than tokicos by a decent amount of money.

Has anyone tried out both KYBs and Tokicos and could compare them?


I'm looking for a rear pair to match my koni reds.. i was gonna go with the blues but then i saw that thread.. wouldn't mind saving a few bucks if the performance is similar. I'm probably going to match these shocks with h&r springs

the kyb's dont work with a dropped car, they are a STOCK replacement.

tokicos do work with a drop.

they are stiffer, but they are stock replacements, they will bottom out with any sorda drop.

and thats what i was asking i only have a 1" drop and thought i could save a few bucks by goin with the kyb's but i just said f it ill get the tokico's

be sure to get tokicos if you have any drop. i plan on doing a drop, sometime later in the long time, but for now, im gonna just gonna use my current springs and just use the tokicos.

well i've got konis for up front but from what i gather the rears aren't all that important.. some people use revalved bilsteins up front and regular bilsteins in the back and don't seem to complain

considering i'm only looking for two there probably wont be much of a difference price wise so i'll prolly get tokico, but i would be interested to hear from someone who has used both

actually the struts will be the same length no matter what. tokicos and kyb are both supposed to be 10-15% stiffer than stock, blah blah blah. just go with the brand you trust, for me thats tokico.

most people say tokicos are better, some people chime in that they are happy with their kybs, somebody points out that they are supposedly the same, and then lots of peope say kybs are stock replacements.


man i wish i could find a pair of koni rears :\ i'll probably go with the blues, so that both my shocks will be color coded

so ya i have the ebach pro kit 1" and soon to have to tokicos as soons as ups shows up with them

Today, I am replacing my stock struts with KYB GR2's. Factory struts have 202K miles on them, so that give you an idea how easy my car is driven.

Would it definitely be bad to install the 2.25" / 2.5" lowering spring that I already have? I heard from many that KYBs are not good for this. But, if the car in driven easy, would the KYBs hold up? I like the looks of the drop, but wearing the new struts out so quick doesn't sound good.

yeah it all depends on the spring....tokicos can hold up to 250pound springs and that is equal to a 1.5 inch drop. some members just use them and say that they are fine...good luck...you might want to put 2 bump stops so you dont mest up the shock

haha messy is usin my info, now i feel special. crazykamper, stop using information that is not verified. KYB's are supposedly 15% stiffer than stock, just like the tokicos, so theoretically they can handle 250 pounds as well. but a 2.25" or 2.5" drop will fuck up tokicos or KYBs, and provide you with a bouncy as hell ride, because neither of these struts have that much dampering.

Thats not true dude. I have Tokicos all around with 2.25 inch Sprint springs. And it rides just fine.

All we have are manufacturer claims and user's opinions. Tokico and KYB claim about the same increase in stiffness. Neither is very well suited to springs much stiffer than stock--especially in the front.

If you only have a choice of tokicos and kyb, then go w/ tokicos. People here seem happy/satisfied w/ tokicos. I haven't seen anyone use kyb, so I wouldn't know.

You best performance bet is revalved bilsteins, but you will need to pay more.
