    canadian model different then us?

    is the canadian version of the 2.0L carbed engine different then the us version (sopposely us cars have a oxygen sensor whereas the candian cars dont)
    also local dealer says its almost $1000 dollars for a new carb to get the car to pass aircare and i dont really believe it.

    Yea my LX(carb) has one, but i believe they are useless on a carb until it comes time for emissions. You can also rebuild your own carb, or pull one from the junkyard.

    I think the 88-89 has an O2 sensor but the 86-87 don't . My 87 hatch doesn't have one but my 89 had one.

    Aircare=lower mainland

    If you can tell us what failed the emissions test, we might be able to further help you out in terms of tuning, repair, etc.

    $1000 is bogus,
    check the market place someone was selling carbs, but they were us spec, so usually they'll have the air jet controller and you'rs wont.

    failed on the driving test (4% CO needs less then 1%)
    other then the aircae problem its a great car that needs 200 bucks in other work to get it in great condition (timing belt, waterpump, battery)

    but if its not the carb what checks should i be preforming on it?

    Download the PDF of the shop manual first, that will give you an idea of what tools you need for the job.
