    What Engine Model is it?

    Hi everyone.
In the auto shop at my school there's AT LEAST 20 Honda 4-cyl engines in random places but I'm not sure what kind they are, what size, etc. Is there any way of finding this out by just looking at them?
    Thanks guys.

There is usually a number stamped on the engine. Like B20A, D16Z6, A20A1, A20A3. The first letter usually signifies the engine series, the displacement is the numbers, and the sub-series is the second numbers. Get that number and just Google it and you'll get lots of results.

Older engines may not be stamped, I'm not sure. Typically they are E-series engines. E-series are almost all CVCC engines, so that is usually a hint...

look on the front of the block. right by where it would bolt to the transmission, there should be a flat surface about 1.3" by 1.5". on that surface, you should find numbers and letters stamped. those numbers/letters are the engine code which then tells you what engine it is and then the serial # of that particular block. like on this picture, the engine code is in the lower left corner.

Ok cool. that makes it a lot easier. What engines am I looking for to swap into an 88 Accord 4-dr? (now it has the stock carbed motor- A20A1??). I'm looking for a relatively easy & cheap swap to get the best performance.
    Thanks.

nothing will swap without major modifications unless for some majocal reason your shop has JDM 3G accord B20A motor.
anything else will require custom everything.
