86 accord ex engine missing

trying to sort out my missing idle problem but dont know where to start
when the engine is idling i can hear a pop in the tailpipe every now and then.

then when i go past 3000rpm in any gear the car seems to hesitate

but once the car has been running for 1/2 hour it seems fine


any ideas

i have fixed the misfire in the engine it was a faulty lead
also noticed something about the hesitation this morning
when the car is warming up and the idle is high there is no hesitation around 2500-3000rpm
but when the car resumes normal idle after warming up there is hesitation

i am running the car with no thermostat.
could that be the problem
