i've been looking around for engine improvement to my dx and i never considered installing a better carb. i see alot of dicussions bout the 32/36 and the 38 carb from weber. my goal is to beat my friend MR2. he's running all stock right now but plans to upgrade. im hoping to get 180hp if i can =) i know its a stretch.
i was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference and power gain from the different carbs from weber
also is it harder to install a 38 carb than a 32/36?

You won't know what hit you
both carbs are identical when it comes to installation.
38 weber has two bores that are 38mm. it will be better for higher rpm range. you will have to port the stock intake manifold if you want to see gains from that carb.
32/36 is big step up from stock carb. it will give you nice power gains and good gas mileage if it is tuned properly.

well i just had my car smogged about 3 months ago when i got it. i shouldnt have to worry bout them. sheperd do you happen to know the amount of power gain? a ball park figure?

You won't get anywhere near 180HP on a stock engine no matter what carb you put on there. And I'm pretty sure neither of those carbs will support 180HP without some boost. On a stock engine, maybe an extra 10HP? That's a SWAG though.

Without headers and cam, you will barely notice the carb.
no way you'd get 180 with just the carb
be happy if you still have close to 100 hp on our cars after all those miles.
Do port work on the intake side and get a header and exhaust.
