    89 lxi running wrong

When i drive my car sometimes in 2nd gear at about 2.5-4000 rpm, just normal driving, my car will sputter and then sometimes back fire a little, then sometimes on into third but after about 10sec it will stop. i just recently had my timing check and i got new plugs and wires. so im wondering what could be wrong?
    Thanks

yeap, check the plugs, cap and rotor, also make sure the wires are in good shape and not craked.

also check your timing. you may have it advanced way too much.

Are you getting any jumpiness in the tach? If so, the distributor itself may be going. Mine started with just an occasional miss at around 3000-3500, then gradually increased until the tach looked like the old cable-driven kind, when the cable would get dirty. It's not the tach, but is an indication that the body of the distributor is headed south, maybe the bearing. In this case, a new cap/rotor will not solve the problem. I got a rebuilt, which didn't work (the rebuilder didn't check the CPS contact I think), so threw in one from a wreck. Solved the problem.

alright well i have a parts engine, with 90,000 miles and it gots a distributer on it, so i was thinking of just swaping whole distribturs. the thing i need to now is there a difference between carburated distrbuter and efi.
    thanks

Definitely different. The FI dizzy has a pseudo crank position sensor in it.

You may have messed up your timing, get a timing light and check, or if you're feeling lucky just move it around until it sounds like it's running better lol.
If you're not breaking parts, you're not making enough power!
