Overheating issues

I had a heater hose crack and I lost all my coolant. I replaced the hose today, but after 10 minutes of driving the temp. gauge shot up. I got it back to the apartment and turned the car off. I could see a little smoke coming from around the cylinder head and coming off something under the car. I don't have anymore time to mess with it myself b/c I'm moving on Friday, so I'm taking it to a mechanic as soon as it cools. Is my cylinder head warped? What would cause it to still run hot after I replaced the hose and filled the radiator? Thanks in advance.

You have air in your system, and your headgasket probably needs replacement.

Its possoble that the thermestat is stuck closed making the car overheat.

Don't forget to purge your system from any trapped air bubbles. Right by the distributor and thermostat there is a air bleed screw for the cooling system. I think the steps are: 1)Allow engine to warm up. 2) Open bleed screw and close once it leaks coolant. 3) Repeat a few times.

The smoke might be the residual antifreeze evaporating/burning off.
