noob with some q's about his new SE-i

    Hello fellas
My name is Jedz and I recently purchased my first Honda a week ago. I am the proud owner of an 89 Honda Accord SE-i auto with 101K miles. I purchased the accord from a little old lady for only a grand. I needed a reliable daily driver and gas saver so I bought it. The check engine light was on when I bought it. The light has gone off since I did a complete tune-up, advanced the timming and installed a homemade cold air intake... odd I know but it has not come back on since. I was curious about the stats of the motor in my car. I belive it's an A20 but I'm not to sure. I know it's a 12 valve SOHC motor. but thats about it. I don't know it's power ratings. I am also curious on what would be good cheap mods to boost the performance on the engine. I was hoping you guys could fill me in on some info about my car. Is there any problems that could arise and I should keep my eye out? Or is this car a solid car? I don't plan on making this car fast, I got my Legacy for that. I just would like to have a decent peepy little gas getter. Like I said this is the first Honda I have ever had so I don't know much about them...
    Thanks guys
    ~Jedz

Let me be the first to say....

    Pics! and search!

lol jk you can learn a little bit of the stock spec about your car from the wiki.. see the link in my sig Your engine is an a20a3 and is the same engine found in an LX-i. You definitely bought a solid car.. chances are she's got plenty of miles left in her.

    [edit: looks like i wasn't the 1st ]

Re: noob with some q's about his new SE-i

    Pics for you fellas

here's a pic of the leather seats.....sooo nice

Here's the pic of the odometer

A pic of the home made cold air intake...you can see the green filter through the bumper

As for the intake it self I just used the old piping and made a new intake with it. I had to off set the battery a bit to make the piping fit...it was tight but it works great!

so thats it guys Thanks for the welcome I'll be sure to post!

pretty nice you might want to refine the CAI there is a DIY for it on the how to section under engine and transmission, check it out.

I hope its awhile before I need to do any more swaps of any kind. I just finished this about month ago.

The car was a 2.2 H4 and now is a 3.3 H6.... I t was a pain in the ass and took me about a month to do so I'm kinda pooped out on swaps... BUt is the 5-speed swap hard or cheap?

Holy shit, is that an SVX eg33? In an old school legacy? That thing must haul balls.

Anyway, the 3g is a decent car, but the SEis are notoriously horrible for reliability and performance. To avoid frustration, you should just sell me your SEi for $100. :P

If you were able to sawp the 3.3 in there, doing the 5 speed swap on your 3G will be a breeze for you to do, Most of us that did the swap did it in a few days or less, just make sure you have everything that you need.

i hit 125 on my dx on 280.....but its not really fair because some of it its downhill....on the flat it can do like 115...after that it feels like a hits a wall and it just sucks up gas. i never toped off my lx-i one day i will.

topped off= filling the gas tank up all the way.

    topping out= hitting top speed.

Well, judging from the gas price trend eventually people will be talking about how 'someday' they will be able to top off their car

    I pulled the motor from a 92 SVX....and mated with a FWD 5-speed I pull 0-60 just over 4 seconds...uhh and I can bury my 140mph spedo on demand.

Anyway, the 3g is a decent car, but the SEis are notoriously horrible for reliability and performance. To avoid frustration, you should just sell me your SEi for $100. :P
UHhh I just paid a grand for it.... I think I'll take my chances and drive the car to the ground.

Wow man. Did you post this thing on nabisco yet? 0-60 in under 4 seconds is absolutely insane. I wasn't aware SVX engines had that much power. Did you run nitrous or anything>?

LOL no no no It's about 4.5 -5 second 0-60 time. The SVX has 230hp with its very restrictive exahust and intake systems...uhh my set up has it's cats but no muffler 2.5" all the way back. Snorkle removed from the intake system... I'm guessing 250-260hp range off the crank. I stripped the legacy all down... nothing but a dash and 2 seats , and still rolling on 14"s...plus she's FWD not AWD. car weighs around 2100/lbs.. I was posting Nasioc but haven't posted in a couple of months. I haven't posted since the car has been running either.
