I have a Avital alarm system that I haven't installed yet, because I'm lazy. :\ Anybody real good at installing alarms? How do you connect the wires? Do I cut apart the factory harness and solder them together? That just seems a bit.... eh... extreme.

I installed a piggyback ECU on my friends car. We cut the factory harness (scary!) and then used those crimp connectors. Just stuck 2 wires in one end, and one wire in the other. I would have preferred to solder them, but he just wanted to crimp it to get it done... oh well. Crimps are how the "professional" shops do it, and most people don't have problems. If you solder though, you're less likely to have problems...

alarms are easy to install if you have the right tools and some electrical know how. my alarms wired into the cars wiring loom in many places for the immobiliser and central locking. i have also rigged up more relays on the immobiliser to cut power to the coil fuel pump and ecu. make sure you have some heat shrink tubeing soldering iron and at least a multimeter to test what wire goes where in the cars loom. mine came out all good no ugly wires newhere

i dunno. looks like one we sell at oreilly's. personally, i'm going to go with either a Viper or Shelby alarm system. although i'm going to be paying between $200-$300 installed depending on which one i go with. soon i hope, people are dick around here and will break into your car wherever you park it. sucks.

Expensive alarms = waste of money. You're just paying for the logo. They all do the same freakin' thing.

Yeah, they will try to get the car if they want it regardless of the alarm brand.

Get the cheap alarm installed correctly and it will be as good as the expensive ones. The one that you posted doesn't seem too bad, but I'd get 2-way alarm

Re: what do you think of this alarm system?

2-way alarm will page your remote you if the alarm is triggered so you know whenever the alarm is triggered, engine running (remote start) etc.

Re: what do you think of this alarm system?

Nah thats engine immobilizer, to disable the engine starter/ignition/whatever you attached it to whenever then alarm is armed.

And its cool thing to have as long as you remember not to keep the car in gear!
