    Top Speed

    Guys & Girls,

I have to tell you...and I'm not bragging. But I'm just really happy with what I have been able to achieve with your help. I had the opportunity to open up my car on the highway tonight and was able to hit 205kmh/130mph.

I'm telling you this, because it wouldn't have been possible without the help of the guys on this site. I started with the idea that I would change the air filter in the stock intake and ended up with a 20 year old car that almost buries the speedo.

I owe you all a sincere and heart felt THANKS.

I'm hoping that once my adjustable cam gear arrives I'll be able to dial it up and improve my non existent top end. You'd laugh if you could see me some days...I have my auto shifted into 2nd and I put my foot down to the floor and I often have my hands in the air wondering where the hell the power is? I know, I know it's the auto...but I can't justify putting 2 grand into a swap.

You're hittin 130 mph on an auto? Great stuff man.

    Was that at max redline?

I'm working on building a solid auto daily driver with nitrous right now.... just ordered the MSD-6AL for that sort speed

Omg how the hell can it cost 2 grand for a swap? Mine was going to cost US$750 including all parts and labour if I had it done at a workshop. In the end, with donor cars and the help of friends it will only end up costing me the price of a new clutch/machined flywheel about $150.

Same problem with 2nd... but I had many other tuning issues back in the day that were slowly resolved in the final months and then the city towed my car in 2006

2nd gear runs in the video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cFH3Sv5HwY

    - D3(1st) will hold to about 5,500 rpm then it will shift on it's own
    - 2 I will hold till 85 mph or 7,500 rpm
    - D3 I will hold till 125 mph or 7,500rpm
    - D4 slips and will barely rev past 2,500 rpm... i lose power, but I haven't really tested it cause I run out of safe speeding zone...
    It will get to 130.

I haven't done any speed runs though after that video was shot... I didn't register my car so if I was caugth driving it let alone driving it beyond the speed limit I would really be in trouble.

    /.

Why is it costing 2 grand for a 5-speed? I would think $700 at the most.

sweet. do a tranny swap, if nothing else. you'll love it. i drove a 5-speed 3g the other day for the first time and i finally understood what messy was saying about robbed power in the auto tranny.

    Re: Top Speed

I mixed that up...I have nothing at the bottom end not the top. I was at 5k rpm when I hit 205km/130mph. You know...I don't know why it's so fucking expensive to have the swap done. Believe me, I've had a few different estimates, but they all come back around the same price. I've factored in donor cars, but at the end of the day...it's the labour that is going to kill me.

Of course I don't want some "hack" doing the work. But the biggest problem is I can't do any of the work myself.

Oh opps I didn't realise he had a B20A. Must have gone to a lot of trouble already to get an auto B20A in there.

    Re: Top Speed

You guys know I"m talking about a A20 auto, right? Here's what I've done:

    CAI
    Header
    Colt Cam Stage 1
2.25 exhaust straight back w/out the cat.

I have a adjustable cam gear and I'm thinking about upgrading my throttle body. Once I've done that, I'm toying with the idea of having it dyno'd. I'm hoping for 150-170hp?

    Re: Top Speed

I saw this thread yesterday, so I decided to try my luck.

The SuperHonda can still do 100mph! a bit scary though. I don't think i'll do that again- it loves to do 80 though.

    Re: Top Speed

The S2000 tops out at 138mph (@9200rpm) in 5th. The top was down so I didn't want to try 6th.

I coasted when it hit the rev limiter. No big deal as the Mk3 Supra I was racing was far behind at that point.

    Sorry, a bit off topic.

maybe the low-mid 150 at the crank. but those mods are surprisingly impotent in our cars relative to other newer cars like rsx-s, etc. and that auto tranny saps power like a leech.

I'm hoping that once I get the adjustable cam gear I'll be able to improve my bottom end. I remember reading somewhere that if I adjust to the positive I gain hp and if I adjust to the negative I get more torque? Does more torque = quicker off the line?

Believe me if I could find someone in the Vancouver area that would do the swap for less...I'd be all over it. But I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a 20 year old car

It's not how fast your top speed is, but how fast you get to top speed that counts.

fastest i hit with my 3g was 105mph and that took awhile since its auto and it feels that it reaches max power and torque at around 5k-6k rpms and redline is like 7kish.

My '89 EXI has a carb 5 speed and I barely made it up to 190km/h. Cold air intake, manual rack conversion, 5 spd. conversion, wieght reduction.
Maybe it's the 300,000 KM on the engine?

    Re: Top Speed

If you go back to original post...you'll see that I'm thanking the guys that have provided their suggestions in respect to bolt on mods. I have no reason to bullshit you. Whether you believe me or not is entirely up to you...but what would I have to gain by lying?

My point is...that's possible to have a car that is not only is economical, but fun to drive with relatively little money in.
