The motor has a wopping 226000 miles on it and counting. its idleing very high at 2500 rpms. from my understanding the guy i bought the car off of said that it has exhaust problems and well it does thats getting fixed but it shouldnt idle that high with exhaust issues, i was considering the water pump just went bad possibly? but that couldnt consist of high idleing. what could it be? i am a noob to these old carb'd cars so help me out here!

theres a screw you turn to ajust the idle on the carb
Pull up on the pedal from underneath. If the idle drops, check the throttle cable where it goes through the firewall. Mine broke and was holding the idle around 2000. Check that the throttle plates are not sticking and look for vacuum leaks.

alright i will do that, a vaccum leak sounds plausible cus there are 1000 of them.
i will do that before i do anything else mr. skycam. =]
