    Back to Driving an Accord

Hey guys, I just bought an 89 LXi. I used to have a 93 ex, and I gotta say, I'm excited. I don't have any pictures yet, but it's all stock, and white, except for the stereo and speakers I put in. The car was owned by an old man who barely drove it. So here's the kicker, 37000 miles, original. I've had to do all sorts of stupid maintence stuff since the car has been sitting in his garage for over a year, change this, flush that; gonna do the plugs and such tomorrow since I think they're original. I find only one fault on the car, it's an automatic.

I'm just waiting to get it back tomorrow from the shop for an alignment. I mean, there is a small dent in the back near the gas cap, but I didn't even notice it at first. It was dirty as hell when I bought it, I still need to clean the inside.

Re: Back to Driving an Accord

Ok, so today I went to the shop and picked up the accord and took it directly to the inspection station since I only had a few days until the temporary inspection expired. On the way back I picked up a cruise control switch from a pick and pull since mine for some reason wouldn't stay clicked on. THE BAD NEWS: I knew my accord was in an accident before I bought it, but everything checked out. Well, they need to fix the frame in order to align it properly. It'll cost me another $300 to fix. Ahh, well, I guess that's why we have credit cards. Oh yeah, and I forgot to borrow my roommate's digital camera before I brought it back to the shop so no pictures yet. It's almost there, I'm getting of driving my shitty chevy malibomb.

I figured some of you might be skeptical about the miles so I figured I would post part of the carfax report.

Re: Back to Driving an Accord

I know, I know, the chevy blows. It only has 118000 miles on it and it already worries me. It eats brakes and even when it's working as it should, it's still no honda or 3g for that matter. It feels so, generic. There is ONE good thing about, it looks so shitty that cops ignore it completely. Bland as hell.

That's right, my friends 89 DX 3g went to 250000 before it died because he let it overheat too much and the engine cracked. We were sad to see it go, but we vowed that one of us would drive a 3 or 4 G(since I also used to drive a 4g) again.

Re: Back to Driving an Accord

Yeah, the junkyard. It was my first car, since then, I've owned:

1992 Toyota Tercel (burned oil like no other)
1982 Buick LeSabre (old as hell, I could even get the starter off, it was rusted to the car!)
1997 Toyota Corolla (I rear ended somebody and totaled it)
1993 Nissan Sentra (clutch, among other things, car was free though)
1998 Chevy Malibu (will be sold once the accord is ready)
    1989 Honda Accord LXi
I gotta say, none of them touch the accord for an overall good car.

Re: Back to Driving an Accord

Well, I still keep forgetting to borrow my roommate camera to take a picture, but the car has been back from getting an alignment and the frame fix. I remember my friend's, same as the guy with the camera actually, 89 dx had full assist on the steering all the time whereas this one gets a little tighter as I drive faster. After spending some time in the forum, I'm finding that his car was probably faulty. However, the car handles like it's out for vengeance. I forgot how good accords handle as I haven't driven one in about 3 years. I've done a tune up, but the idle is still a little rough when in gear. Apparently, it's a problem alot of owners have. If I have time on Monday, I'm gonna take the front doors apart and attack the slow window issue. I found another lxi at a junkyard a couple days ago and the rear doors/window motors looked untouched so if it comes down to replacing the motors, I'll just grab 'em from there. As far as rustproofing goes, rust has never been an issue with me and my cars, or at least I never worried about it.
