89 accord lxi auto, took a trip to tulsa from okc, a/c quit workin half way to tulsa. When I turn it on it blows hot air, cooling fan comes on, but compressor isn't working. What's up ? What needs to be done to fix it ?

Possibly you are low on freon. If the system is low on freon, the compressor will not turn on.

Are you saying that the radiator fans are coming on when the AC button is pressed? If so I doubt that you are low on freon. I would check the clutch relay, wiring to the clutch, and the clutch itself.
yeah, the radiator fans are coming on, i checked the freon level with a guage and it said it was full.
Unplug the compressor clutch. It is a single wire connector that is attached to the core support. Connect a meter between the harness side and a ground. You should have full battery voltage when the AC is turned on. If you get nothing I would check the AC fuse, and clutch relay. If the fuse is blown, make sure that the positive clutch wire isn't shorting out on the compressor. The insulation can be worn off from a pulley or belt.
