Hey buddy! Welcome to the site! Keep checking out all the 2geez posts. I think you'll find that there is a TON of fun to be had with these cars! What color is your car? You should post some pictures!

It's awesome to see more and more members join without 86 - 89 accords. This forum has evolved into bringing older accord owners together. Welcome!

    Re: New Guy!

I am a long time member of team-2g.com which is a DSM enthusiast site focusing on mainly the 2nd generation of DSM's. I bought the car for a daily driver to replace the eclipse while I am building it up" evo III 16g turbo ,FMIC, 3inch turbo back exhaust, 650cc injectors, walbro 190 fuel pump, ETC......
I hope this car is pretty reliable, it has a few things that are messed up but only one things major. I has the ground wire connected to the valve cover cut, the screen on the carb is broke, the kid before me messed with the carb and it will probably need to be adjusted, It backfires upon deceleration, and the best for last.... the fron drivers shock mount is rusted through.. The kid also put a brand new oem exhaust on it but didn't realize that ALL of the exhaust is coming out after the cat. I am going to fix the leak and put a thrush performance muffler on it. Any tips as far as information on these cars?

No...LOL! I have to shut it off and leave it in gear and after it gets hot and then you shut it off it doesn't want to start right up. So I wish the e brake worked. It wont lift up at all. I wanted To fix this car up but I think it to far gone. I wanted a satin black paint job, Rims, Fog lights, lowered, shocks, sway bars and an exhaust. I wanted to make it look like a old rally car. I cant find shit on these things though.

Its all achievable but remember its a 20 year old car, so it ain't a case of picking things up off the shelf in some store. Even in its day these cars never saw much modding so it makes it all the more difficult, or challenging, depending on your point of view!

You can get wheels easily enough, finding a set of retro fogs will be pretty straight forward, lowering springs are obtainable, koni shocks are off the shelf ( & very cheap!) See here: http://www.classicgarage.com/accord4.html.

As long as the base unit (shell), engine & box are not all too far gone its surely worth a gamble?

Nice whips. Did Mitsu ever solve their crankwalk issues? On the Accord, a rusted strut tower is not unheard of. Fixing it or chancing it is the question now. It can be fixed, but it takes some skill to do it right. It's probably driveable, but it may only be a matter of time on that one. Good luck man.

    Re: New Guy!

No crankwalk is no as common as people think. It is an excuse..... It tends to be more common i the early years before 50k. It only happens in the 7 bolt engines though. I can happen in ANY engine though.

How exactly can I fix it?

    Re: New Guy!

MIG welding and sheet metal. I have rebuilt one front and one rear strut tower on my 2g resto project. It is actually very easy with the right tools but I recommend removing the strut and putting cardboard over the windshield to keep the spatter off.

So did you weld from the inside and fill the outside with filler?
I filled her up yesterday an couldn't wait to see what kind of gas millage I would get.......Probably not good considering the gas tank leaks!

I welded from the outside, and it's easy to get good penetration on the thin sheet metal. Burning through is actually the main problem. If you do it right a bead of weld appears on the backside of the seam as it does on the front. I did use fiberglass glazing putty, but after grinding the weld bead and using a flap wheel there is minimal filling to be done. Check out "the welding thread" in the 2gen interior/exterior section to see some of the things I've done.
