    Project b18 in 84 s w/pics

well here it is oldTimer2gS accord... was going going awesome till we ran into a problem with the axles. now we are trying to find a shop in bc that can do them since no one in town wants to touch them.... cant really figure out why either. we made hybrids but they were like 1/2-3/4" to long. wider tranny i guess and int shaft i guess.

as usual, we will try to track progress as we go. most of the time we forget to take pics as we pass certain milestones.

ps: yes i know the engine is crooked, half assed, cock eyed, pri mounted, more pics to follow...off kilter'd, not mounted, w/e hahaha... its sitting on stands until i can get axles so i can finish the mounts.

what i'm going to attempt to reuse on this project:

stock drivers side accord mount to chassis(not much room for the engine to move sideways less than 1" easy both sides)
    my 3g rear db mount
front mounts going to consist of a custom made drag bar i think. so the exhaust clears.
side mount, as like the 3g, get welded in.

    more pics to follow...

Badass! I'm so jealous! Can I come up when you guys get it finished?! Is that the B18 from the 1st gen Integra?

How is that car lowered BTW?

engine is from a 1992 2g DA and is obd1. pulled it from my 88 dx infavour of the h22.

best part is, is the wiring... its already done.. i already know the engine runs, so when we get our axles back.. this is going to be a piece of cake to finish.

suspension is a mockup, there are no springs in it right now, as far as lowering goes, i've gotten as far as using 3g/4g coils. i plan on also making adj camber/caster plates similar to the mitsubitches aftermarkets.

running out of options for axles i've called a bunch of places in North America in general and the only place that is offering some help is raxles.... have to get him compressed length and spline count from the hub.

if that doesn't work, then its plan b... increase the track and swap front spindles to accommodate the slightly larger axle.

I know you guys don't have any 85 SEi Accords up there, so if you need the 3g size front splines, I can pick you guys up the SEi spindles, as they are bolt on for the 2g but have the 3g size splines... That might get your project in the right direction. Let me know if you need help since I can get them down here.

    Re: Project b18 in 84 s w/pics

that would be awsome at this point... if you can get me a price including shipping through usps we could definitly use a set of those. would so make the swap much easier. if not, then i have to probably fab up lca's for 1g integra knuckles.

rather have the se-i spindles for sure.

So, I'm not 100% familiar with disassembly of a steering knuckle, but which part would you be looking to get... I would think the whole knuckle with bearing and hub is what you're looking for, but I'll go to my local Honda shop and see what they say the parts come in sets of. If you can get a whole knuckle with the bearings and hubs already pressed in, I think that's what you want, correct?

Also, here are some estimated parts prices, I'll probably pick up the parts locally, and do a little bit of price shopping first:

the whole thing assembled would be nice.... i dont really want to have to press anything if i dont have to.

Allright, I'll see what the dealer says tomorrow. The local Schmucks and the Zone that doesn't ever have the Auto stuff I'm looking for don't have the parts. Anything except the wheel bearing... pffft

Well... this is going to be fun. They're discontinued from Honda. Went to the dealer at lunch and had no luck whatsoever. Couldn't get any parts related to the steering knuckle, hub, or anything around those lines. I did a junkyard search, and the nearest SEi to me is about 50 miles away, down in Longview. I will call them and see if they actually have the car...

If I do get down there, I won't be able to get down until some time next week. I'm busy as hell until Monday...

You might give this dealer a try : https://www.hondapartsdeals.com/hond...omponent=B++27

    Right is : 51211-SA5-010
    Left is: 51216-SA5-980

Everytime all the other online dealers have failed this one has had it.

    Best of luck!

    Re: Project b18 in 84 s w/pics

Thanks Forrest, I will give them a call soon too. The guy I spoke with at our dealership in Olympia was telling me that all those parts come separately. So, Vector, if we buy brand new parts, you'll have to have the hubs pressed into the knuckle. Or I can try the junk yard and get the whole assembly. I think I wanna go to that junk yard anyways, and check out the SEi just for fun, and maybe to rob it of some parts.

The knuckle on the SEi and the regular car are the same anyways. I imagine if you brought the knuckles and hubs down to a shop, that they'd do it for like $20 or something, since they're already pulled.

See my post in the 2g Faq/how to forum regarding axle swaps. Buying knuckles is a waste of time. You can source all the parts from parts stores and the junkyard.

Welding in your own double-wishbone suspension is going to take some super-precise geometry isn't it? Doesn't seem worth it to me... MacPherson struts handle just fine... (remember we're talking an 84 Accord). And it's not really worth ALL that work, when like guyhatesmycar said, you can swap in the 2g Prelude bearings... Seems like you've come so far to let a couple of wheel bearings stop you...

    Re: Project b18 in 84 s w/pics

to get it there didnt take much time.... and about the wishbone.... its not as presice as i'm led to believe... so i dont see why i couldnt do it with a measuring tape, caliper, degree level, tools like that. gives me an opportunity to make teh suspension adjustable on it...

bearings from a 2g would work yes.... will have to find a place in kelowna that can press them for me if i stick with macs

Would you use the double-wishbone setup from the 3g Accord or a newer car?

    Re: Project b18 in 84 s w/pics

Would have thought using upper wishbone would be harder to adjust than traditional slotted plates often used to revise position of top strut mount for camber/castor, besides trying to add sufficient strength an area of the strut tower not designed for suspension loads, assuming there's enough room for it?
Strut layouts not that much worse than double wishbone unless you want short suspenion travel.

If you did want to do it though, would it be worth looking at how the 2nd Gen Prelude structure, being the first double wishbone Honda & shareing some of its suspension & body structure with the 2nd Accord ?
