    83 engine / car rebuild thred *pics*

    so as some of you know i got a car with a blown headgasket and all the general gayness that goes along with that if you want you can read all about that in my old thread. https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61427 anyways since then I have dissassimbled the engine and taken it to britco machine shop for some tlc http://www.britcoengines.com/ what I am having them do is a bore hone. then deck the block. hot tank. and the mic and polish my crank .in addtion I went ahead and orderd berrings pistons and seals through them. all of that will be ready for me on the 8th. I have to throw in a little plug for them here they where knowdalagable profeshnal and prompt they where also reasonabley priced (kinda lol spent way more then i planned). So in the mean time I though that I would tie up all of the lose ends let me stard off with photo jernal of this car.

    the car - hood

    the crappy batt relocation

    Looking good so far... Not that I haven't seen most of that in person. Random that we both get our engines going at the same time, and live in the same town. I think working on your car, really got me going on my 1gee. Lets see who finishes first!

    Man that media blasting is awesome! I've got a handheld sandblaster at home... I think I'm going to do the same thing. That Canadian manifold is sexxay! Especially compared to that giagantic US manifold.

    Especially compared to that giagantic US manifold.
    & the '79-81 EL manifold looked even smaller without those extra water pipes!

    I saw one figure quoted for the '81 EK engine weight & looked up the equivalent spec in my '79 EL w/shop manual:
    EK = 158 kg/351 lbs
    EL = 145 kg/322 lbs

    Even though they shared the same engine block !
    13 KG !!!
    & that's not even including the Cat converter used on post '80 EK.

    wow both good ideas. lol would be such a fast little hatch!
    even though you are joking around, isn't it tempting to be the first (?) turbo 2g swapped accord? hehe

    Haha! I was talking about the old-school Jackson Racing blow-through turbo kit for the early E-series motors. Uses an SU carb. It's a pretty crazy looking setup for sure!

    This is the only picture I can find of it, but Jackson Racing has been making Honda performance stuff forever! And yes, that is all on the back of the engine.

    Read this article, and learn much about early Honda performance possibilities. They used to make trips to Canada to buy batches of EL heads and sell them down here in a package with headers, cam, exhaust, carbs, etc. I guess they got some pretty wicked power with that stuff.

    Even mentions them running 14.5 with a 1200cc Civic, and doing ice racing with turbo / nitrous setups on the early E-series engines as well.
