    Name This Part!

I found this free-floating. Name what it is for one point, tell me where it goes for another point, and tell me if I need it for another point.

First player accumulating 3 points will win a nearly empty bottle of opened 1979 Honda Power Steering Fluid that has been bouncing around the spare tire compartment of this car for nearly 30 years.

Here's the part of the engine compartment where I found the part:

    Here's the part:

    It says T.O. on it:

And has some sort of filter or something on it:

    Thanks!

Well, that looks like a vacuum check valve. It ensures that whatever it goes to doesn't lose vacuum under throttle. I'm not sure what exactly it goes to, but if your car is running okay without it, it sounds like you don't need it. May be needed to pass emissions though if it goes to an emissions component of the engine. I would check out the vacuum diagram and look for any place with a check valve, and see if maybe that was an old one that was replaced by a new one. Maybe whoever replaced it forgot to throw it away, and it got lost in a sea of vacuum lines?

^^^ Ooh yeah, that would make sense why it's got that metal clamp on the end.

That looks just like one of the hoses and check valves that is part of the mess under my air filter.
