Update: A lil rice for "Rough Life"

I built a cold air intake for my 3g which leads to other things ...

After I got it all installed, I realized i'd need to leave off the fog light cover for better air flow to the new filter location in the front bumper.

That got me worried about stuff entering through that wide open hole, so I got some aluminum mesh to keep stuff out of the bumper. After I got the fog light hole covered, I decided to cover the main grill area and relocate the liscense plate for better airflow to the radiator.

    Here's the new look ...

The day after I got my home-made CAI done I got this one for cheap, so she's gonna get another update soon.

Earlier today, I also got a "2nd gen teg" spoiler like the one Ghettogeddy posted yesterday in this thread. https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62478

More updates will be posted soon.

Re: Update: A lil rice for "Rough Life"

I wish I could get rid of the plate. Da staties get a bit touchie about those things tho ....

I thought about painting the plastic bars in the stock grill but it still wouldn't have matched the mesh protecting the cold air intake inside the fog light hole. Leaving a gaping hole on the passenger side of the bumper made it look incomplete, and like I mentioned in the first post, I wanted something to protect the cold air intake filter from incoming projectiles too.

I just covered the stock plastic bars with the mesh so it can be put back to stock if I ever decide to remove the mesh and cold air intake. I even still have the original air intake ducting (and OE shocks, OE LX-i wheels, headrests, center console, shift handle, ect) stashed in case I ever wanna go back to stock.

I thought about doing that too, but I decided to leave myself the option to go back to stock just in case.

Some folks may not like the way it looks, but then again my wife doesn't like the tinted windows, H&R springs, and the OEM moon roof shroud. If I aint gonna change the way it looks to suit her tastes, why would I do it for anyone else? Heheh

I like it, and I'm proud of it, so I'm showin' it off a little bit. If other folks like it ... GREAT! If they dont like it ... oh well.

One thing to consider would be putting the mesh in the background of the holes, or in other words behind them, then painting it black, and using a wider gap mesh. Looks 20xs better if youre going this route. Ive actually seen it on some Supras/Evos this way.

Re: Update: A lil rice for "Rough Life"

The small piece of mesh covering the fog light hole is just a flat piece cut to fit tightly into the shape of the foglight hole, and secured by 2 small screws at the bottom. The hole is too cluttered up inside because there is mounting point for the bumper skin just inside the foglight hole, so I had to leave everything outside for that hole. (This is also why the main grill was attached in front of the stock grill as well. So things would have a matching apearance.)

The big piece is folded around the edges to make a flat tray with shallow sides. I then stuffed it into the main grill gap with the shallow edge pieces facing in toward the motor for a clean look, and there are 2 small bolts on each end to secure it into the bumper skin.

From the top edge it looks like this ... |_________________|

From the side edge it looks like this ... \___\ The top edge of the main grill sticks out farther that the bottom due to the shape of the bumper, and is slightly rounded side to side as well.

Believe me ... I thought about all of that stuff before doing this.

Wider gap mesh = less projectile protection for the filter.

Black painted mesh = mostly invisible against the dark area behind the mesh = looks like a gaping hole where the fog light cover should be. I did consider getting the blue anodized stuff though.

Mesh mounted INSIDE the fog light hole would have required a mounting method inside the bumper, but ya cant get in there to remove/replace it unless ya remove the bumper first, but ya cant remove the bumper if ya cant get the turn signal out, and that requires getting into the foglight hole.

The bumper skin also has a mounting point at the top inside corner of the fog light hole as well, making it difficult to mount anything inside the fog light hole without looking completely mangled.

Mesh behind the main grill = not matching the mesh at the front of the fog light hole. Mismatched upgrades make me batty! (see below) hehehe

Cars with missing/damaged parts (ie. missing door handles, garbage bag windows, emergency spare tires used for daily driving, bumpers held on with duct tape, etc) just look like @ss to me so I preffer to avoid that look on my own ride. They dont inspect cars here in Ohio so you see some pretty ghetto stuff on the roads around here sometimes. (I saw a 4 door Cutlass the other day with only 3 doors on it! )

Something like this painted black behind the accents of the bumper skin would look good. I just think the regular mesh looks like pure rice.

The mesh on ^ looks like rice to me too, but if it was painted black at least it would look 10x better.

If ya feel like your car fits that description, get to fixin'! Junkyards have cheap cheap parts.

In life stuff happens, like bumper bolts rust and break, and ya gotta fix it temporarily with duct tape, coat hangers, or whatever until ya get a chance to get it fixed properly, but some folks stick it back on with tape and intend to leave it like that. (waayyy too common around here! :P )

Unfortunately, until the bumper gets reattached properly .. the car will look like @ss.
It's just my opinion tho', and shouldn't mean j@ck$hit to anyone else unless they wanna share my opinion.

Speakin' of cheap cheap parts ...

I got this Vigor sway bar for my car for just $15

I got a 2G teg wing for my car for just $20

I also got a Prelude steering wheel for just a couple bucks as well

    Doh!!

I just hope I got it from the right year of Vigor. I got this from a 92 4 door and it looks like the same shape / bends and my stock LXi bar. Gonna try to put it on tomorrow along with the 'lude wheel.
