SO some times when the cars being driven, the PGM-FI light on the dash comes on, when you turn the car off and back on it doesnt come on. How can I check the the code on this? It's an 89 Exi btw

there's a box under the drivers seat. Before making a thread check the search i've been able to find all but one of the answers to my problems just using the search. here it's in the FAQ

just count the flashes
"Weight is relative to power like time is relative to speed"
just take the seat out take the cover off the ecu and u will see a light start engine count the blinks that the light does and that will give u the code. then u search error coes on this forum and it will tell you whats up. usely the light being on will mean an oxygen sensor coolant temperature or intake air temp
I did it today, I got a long flash, then 17 short flashes. On that link it says Vehicle Speed Sensor but my speedo works perfect
you ever have to add p/steering fluid? ever use anything that wasn't honda fluid? check the p/s fluid thats what run through it
"Weight is relative to power like time is relative to speed"
speed sensor is inside the gauge cluster. it doesn't relate to steering at all.
Alex.
Vehicle speed sensor is on the trans... there's one in the dash too?
ModawG : you've got an 89? mines an 88 same ecu i thought and i got 17 short flashes i thought they had the same ecu, maybee they're setup different?
"Weight is relative to power like time is relative to speed"
your ecus put out an error code when ur VSS isnt hooked up?? mine doesnt, must be a difference between the 86-87 and 88-89 BUT the speed sensor in on the dash in the gauge cluster. nothings on the transmition on these cars apart frm the speedo cable doofer and the reverse lights switch wires.
What the cable hooks into is the vss. whats the on in the dash do? maybee thats why my car has a possesed idle problem cause i switched my dash from an auto. huh... mine throws a code if i run out of p/s fluid or if i unhook the speedo cable from it
k i found this but whats it do?

86-87 and 88-89 had two diff gage clusters and two diff ecus.
you can use 88-89 gauge cluster on 86-87 models but not the other way around.
the steering sensor that is on tranny, doesn't have any electrical plugs thus wouln't matter to ECU related problems.
Download paul's manual and read it on how to fix the problem.
Alex.
i''l look into that sensor. it does more than operate the speedo itself? and his is an 89 mines an 88 different ecu's between exi and lxi then?
edit: OMG THANK YOU shepard!!!! this fixed my problem there was a wire hooked up wrong on the back of the vss
