I remember it being hard as hell to take off, make sure you get some penetrating oil also. You can probably just pop out the radiator and make it easier.

    Re: removing oxygen sensor...?

Ive never replaced my O2 sensor but am planning to soon. I know that the sell special sockets for installing and removing O2 sensors, and am pretty sure they arent too expensive. But if thats not an option, blast some WD-40 and let it soak for a while.

Use a special socket for O2 sensors, and lots and lots of PB blaster.

get your hot little hands on one of those o2 sensor sockets. it makes life 100x easier. and remove the ac fan, makes it easier too. and some pb blaster, let it soak for a couple hours. don't be afraid to get liberal w/ the blaster.

I think i paid around 15.00 for the socket at napa.I tried to soak it to loosen the rust but did not help, socket just twisted around on the sensor.I removed the radiator and the heat sheild and used a large cresent wrench with a piece of pipe.Mark

X2. Also if you go for one of the cheap O2 sockets, you will need to grind down the end so you have nothing but hex, as they usually seem to go overboard with that rounding bullshit. Be careful when selecting, one with too thick of a wall will require grinding or heat shield removal.

    Re: removing oxygen sensor...?

I took the heat shield off (this is on an 86 Accord) then I hacksawed off about 1/2 of the O2 sensor so it was short enough for a regular deep socket. Brutal, but effective. I think I screwed the new one on with a box end wrench?

    Re: removing oxygen sensor...?

hey thats a pretty good idea, you aren't saving it anyway, make sure to save as much of the wire as possible though, you can get the sensor much cheaper without the plug. they come with a crimp connector, but i soldered and heat shrunk mine, it'sa very small signal,so the connection is critical.

    Re: removing oxygen sensor...?

Most O2 sensors need a oxygen sensor socket. But in reality, a 7/8" or 22 mm six pointed wrench with break them loose. On occasion, I heat the bung up with a propane torch on S.O.B.'s., .. PB blaster it first though.
