    87roach's 1987 S Hatch Build

Hello all, I'm finally going to post about my project. I have been lurking and posting here and there but not much really. So now I have some stuff to show, woohoo! I have an 87 hatch S(dx) which I plan to mod up with a new engine, suspension, and interior components. Right now shes bone stock since I have been just gathering parts to put on.

    Plans for the hatch:
--Convert to EFI, put in newly rebuilt motor(hope to get some good numbers)
--Swap in all the SE-i brakes
--Switch over as much interior as possible from the SE-i
--Modify all dash lights to LED's
    --Custom shifter gate(currently a WIP)
--CAI with AEM Bypass, and Dryflo
--2 1/4 exhaust all the way back with Magnaflow cat/muffler
--Lower 2 1/4, with ST sway bars and change over as many bushings to poly(ones I can find)
    --Get rubber for rims
--Body work/paint(will do as much as I can, otherwise its too the bodyshop, if I can find a decent bodykit I'll slap it on)
--OBD-1 sometime in the next while..

So dirty makes me sad to post.. must get better pics!

I bought a parts car from b8er a while ago it seems now, anyhow its an 89 se-i coupe and has pretty much everything I want from it(score!). The engine was out when I bought it so after I picked it up I sent it off the Mr. R to get the top end pimped, and I recieved the finished job today(trigger for the thread). So yea heres some pics and words to follow:

These first pics are of my shop reno, not about the 3g but I did it FOR my 3g!! Myself and my dad did all the work, with correcting the old structure, wiring, lights, outlets, insulation, poly, osb. Oh and put in a door(we had to cut a bit to fit) because there was just like this old half ass plank thing for a door so I thought to beef it up for protection.

    Before/During:

Moving everything away from the walls.

    Truss reinforce + leveling.

New door + knob and lock, chopped to fit.

    Wall's stripped of old junk.

    First section of insulation.

    More done...

    More below:

    Re: 87roach's 3g wip

The pistons on the rear calipers actually screw in and out. To get them out they are screwed out. They are very hard to push in since the mechanism inside spins and pushes the piston out vice versa. Anyways nice workshop, and nice project car!

    Ok heres some goodies:

    Resurfaced, cleaned flywheel(stock).

Ok so heres what I could find so far of the good stuff(things have been moved around ect, find other pieces later, these are the better things anyway haha.)
We've got some SS lines from ebay, that whole front suspension kit from ebay, took in the old calipers to a friend in town and he hooked me up with his rate, so I thought I better get the rest while im at it(new rotars and pads). He also resurfaced that flywheel for free and cleaned it up Pacesetter ceramic header(ordered from a store in town), didn't really need a port just that extra tube removed.

    Before port:

Nice looking head, bet it will perform well. I was lucky enough to have calipers in good shape, so slapped some new boots and seals on them and they work great.

Good job on the garage. That rebuild looks like it will run good with all them goodies on it. Props to who done it. Might want a different oil filter after the break in, Fram filters are crap.

I'm pretty sure it will, its much much nicer then my maroon. The oil filter is also just a cap for the moment, I'm pretty much out of money now due to christmas and these last expenses haha. Well spent though!! I'll try to update as I go along instead of stacking up a bunch of pictures again

Oh and sadly I did not get other wip pics of the motor when it was apart, I was away for work and it was pretty much done when I got back(not a bad thing hehe). I'll get some pics of those tails tomorrow(never really looked at them because it doesnt go on the hatch )

Nice work man. Way to go!

Are you going to use that tail on the Se-i? If not Ill take it off your hands. I have a white one on a maroon car. Would love a maroon tail.

Wow, you do great work. This was fun to read all the way through, cant wait to see how it performs once you get it all together and set up! You should record a video of the moment when you start up the engine for the first time!

    Re: 87roach's 3g wip

Yes I'll be converting to EFI, dyno will hope to be done in spring/summer. I'm not rich at all haha I have just been stocking up on this stuff, oh and its the original TB(something down the line to upgrade). Thanks for the replys! (btw I'm learning as I go too, so hints and tips are welcomed )

    Edit:

I'll be changing over all the brakes too, the front ones are in pretty good condition with low kms, just an ugly colour at the moment. Gonna clean them up and paint, will post pics when I get that underway.

    Re: 87roach's 3g wip

Posting late, but have some more pics to show that I took today. Being the low model it is I will be pretty much just upgrading/adding things, I love the non-ps it's kick ass and I wouldn't have it otherwise.

    Some more of the hatch:

And heres the start of my ground kit haha, 4gauge wire.. have the rest laying around and will get it all done when I put the new motor in.

    And my Savage!

    It's soooo fun!

    Re: 87roach's 3g wip

    Whats this??

    Undressing...

Dug out this set of new tools I bought so I put it in my new/used 25$ tool box(score!!)

    Blasted valve cover:

Spoiler pics: I didn't notice any damage just that the paint is fading and there some clear thats pealing off of the light but looks good otherwise.

Center piece is cracked in 3 places, the lights are in good shape but as far as I can tell its one piece...

Drag DR6 Gun Metal(with machined lip) 7 spoke.

Got some sorting out in the shop done today, its kind of a mess of stuff haha. Got the car jacked up(the thing is rotting out and the rear of the rockers are crushing and are full of muddy gook), good thing I didn't get it for the body... start taking off stuff tomorrow and more sorting things out!
