PLEASE HELP ASAP! Have to buy a weber... what do I need to do?

Ok, without getting into details, I have ruined my carb beyond repair.

I can't afford a reman, and I'm SICK AND TIRED of messing with this stupid carb.

I guess I'm going with a 32/36... but do I get a DGEV? I actually like the idea of having a water actuated choke. Can I use a DGAV?

Where can I buy one from other than e-bay?

Is there such thing as a "ready to go carb"

As in, when I purchase it.... is it already jetted? Ready to install?

How hard is it to get adjusted? Can I do it in a day?

This is my primary method of transportation and I'm going to have to get it over nighted from wherever I can purchase it from.

Please, if there is a write up where can I find it? I can't find much information on the site or google.

if it's your daily mode of transportation get a rebuilt carb,will take a while to get the webber going. check out importcarbs.com they are really reasonable and will get you a good rebuild.

Carbs unlimited or Pierce Manifolds are both decent places to buy from. When you call them, you can order the kit for your car, but substitute the DGAV for the DGEV. They are supposed to come pre-jetted as well, so they'll bolt right up and start up right away. The only fabrication I had to do was modify the throttle cable slightly to work with the Weber linkage.

The electric choke will be the quickest one to get going though. Since all you have to do is run a 12v jumper wire from the existing harness from the old carb. If you do the water choke, you'll have to cut and splice a water line, drain and refill the coolant system...

well the reason i suggested the rebuilt factory,is it's already tested and set up. plus they sell therm cheaper then the webber. it'sa bolt up and go.

i actualy agree with cah... the stock carbs are a pain in the ass.... if you have a chance to upgrade do it... go electric choke... im looking to this same upgrade for a 2g lude (A18 engine) swaping a accord head and single manifold (they have dual carbs) and running the same 32/36... seems smart and should come ready to run...

It may be easier to get a carb from the junkyard, and rebuild this one with a rebuild kit or get two carbs, use one and rebuild the other. Kits are pretty cheap.

Just make sure you're ready whichever you choose... because you'll have a few old vacuum lines if not all of them you'll need to replace after removing them from the old carb.

the weber will run, it has it's own jets, you'll have to decide later if you want to put more effort into tuning it to your motor.

The hardest part really is getting the manifold prepped and making new Slots / Hole(s) in the throttle cable bracket and throttle linkage for the accelerator.

Agreed. I was just sharing my experience in case he really didn't want to do a stock carb. I don't think the 3rd gen carbs are as bad as the 2nd gens. If it was a 2g or 1g carb, I would say don't even mess with the stock one. The stock carb definitely has the best daily drivability.

Here's the problem...

I was rebuilding my stock carb, and in the process of hammering out the pin that holds the float on, I broke off the "ear" that holds the other side of the pin. The one pictured in this picture.



I JB welded it back together last night, so I'm hoping it won't dissolve in the fuel.

So this is my main reason to go with a weber, is I don't trust that this will work. If it does, I don't think it will last for very long. It may last forever, I don't know.

so all you need is the top hat? have you put up a post to see if someone has one? i'm sure someone has an extra carb around it just bolts right on to the old carb. as a matter of fact if you need it that quick try majestic honda,i believe you can stil get the top hat, also try marietta carburator specialists. google it. he might have one he can sell you. even contact the first person i told you about, at importcarbs.com he also sells parts. this is a common mistake,the pin is tapered it only goes in one direction, you need a small pin punch and something to tap it with. it should tap out easy if you go in the right direction.

weber 32/36 kit from carbs unlimited, Honda A20 kit, you will not regret it. I have never heard anybody say they regreted it, on regreted not getting a bigger one.. lol
The cost seems high but is not if you consider everything.
If your car is automatic you may have some adjustments to do on the TV tranny cable to match the throttle opening to shift points.

Judging by your skills from what you have already done, I guarantee you will have this thing installed in a couple hours to where you will be able to drive it. A few more hours making things pretty, port matching the adapter plate, making fine adjustments to linkages, ign timing, base idle, choke angle and idle mix. Rejetting is something optional sort of, I will say that you will have at least two different idle mix adjustments for weather changes.

yea he pm'ed me i think thats what he is going to do, i'm trying to help him get going until then. he said he's going to look for a junk carb to get a top hat off of in the meantime. poor redneck is your needle valve allright if you need one let me know i have one in the plastic still i think.

Needle valve is fine. I bought a rebuild kit and came with a new valve and needle.

I got the float all put back together with the jb weld. I'm going to let it sit a little while longer and hope that it will be OK.

I'll have to wait until next payday to get the carb. Little bit more expensive than I thought.

I'd probably modify the existing linkage, but after looking at the weber, I could definitely make something easily. I just don't want to spend a week trying to adjust it, I have NO clue how to tune a carb and usually lose patience with something like that very quickly.

It is not bad at all, they come with instructions and tips sheet. It is 10 times easier than the oem carb to adjust. The linkage they give you will run right out of the box too, just it is hard to get full throttle with it. I got my carb from the local trader paper, it was for a mazda truck so I had to order the adapter plate and made my linkage by cutting off the oem carb linkage and making brackets. The kit is easy, it is just you will see everyone's upgrades for performance like port matching the adapters, custom linkage, custom jetting, so dont let that intimidate you because the kit is a turn key deal.

Well, I fixed my top-hat with some jb weld. I've been driving all day and the float level is still dead in the middle.

I don't think JB weld will disolve in fuel will it? It's holding so far so I think it'll be OK.

I'm going to go ahead and order one anyways and when I get more free time I'll install it. Atleast I can get to work now.

It will eventually turn loose, but you may get by with it a little while.
