    turbo change forces rethink?

so Ive got 2 turbos. Im changing directions again from my T3 42/60 to my larger T3/T4 60/63. This larger turbo has a dirrefent mounting flange so Ill have to pick up an adapter off the internet as opposed to having a new manifold made. The real questions is. Where to put the wastegate on the system for the different turbo. Also Ive got a tial 35mm wastegate. This should be large enough to get all the power from my turbo right?

Also if someone can walk me through injector sizing, and other little issues. Im planning 2 in charge pipes as thats the size of the inlets in my intercooler. The intercooler is a little undersized at 6x28x3 but is a name brand and might get some water injection at the track if temp get too high.

As everyone knows, available space under the hood is a little amis so if you can can help with that in mind it would be great. Mike

The t3/t4 should have the same flange as the little turbo---just a reg t3 flange. The compressor is a t4, not a the turbine.

post some pics of the manifold and turbos. the only differance between the 2 should be the down pipe flange. the t3 should have a internal wastegate, and the hybrid should have a external wasegate. hence the differance in the down pipe flanges.
for injector sizing, what are your hp goals?

wg should be placed on the collector, near the turbo flange.
    un-motivated!
someone make me an offer i just could not say no to.

well they dont share the same manifold mounting. maybe my large turbo is a t4oe. The larger tubo also has no wastegate built onto it

Hm, it should be. If it's a straight t04e then I wouldn't run it. It will never spool.

ok, its an sc34 precision turbo. 60/63 t3/t4oe. Its supposed to have a stage 3 turbine, 360 race bearings. Im nt sure what other measurements to take to find out the exact model but it looks just like
http://www.precisionturbo.net/turboc...tegory_id=3026 that. When I bought it the guys said it was rated 575 hp so Id say in the middle of the pack someplace. Ive got pics in my photobucket account. As for power Im looking for. Ive got a dual stage boost controller with a scramble feature so Id love to see as much as the engine will handle without much strain on the internal components themselves. Id like to see 300+ or so as a personal goal.

The bad part is boost is very addiction so your gonna want to go further LOL. I had my dual boost solenoid set at 10psi/17psi which seemed nice.

Well that's a t3 turbine on that turbo, with a t04e compressor.....sooooooooo the mounting flange should be the same.

well youd think so but they dont line up at all. Ive found a few minimal adapters for thickness

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

What's your other turbo off of?? I bet it's a chrysler, which DOESN"T use a standard t3 flange.

    I'm guessing that's the problem.

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

yes it is. its originally a t3 42-48 from a daytona. accordepicenter put a thunderbird 60 on it so its a 42/60 I think is how that works out

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

Yeah, but the turbine side is still Chrysler flanged, not the standard t3 flange. You should reflange your manifold.

Sidenote: what trim is your t3/t4? I'm assuming it's a stage 3 turbine wheel, but what compressor?

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

yes its a stage 3 whatever that means. Ive talked with a few people and all of them say its easier to reflange the manifold and add the wastegate bung. Im guessing just cut off the old flange tight and through the welds, grind the original weld off the rest of the way and weld on the new t3 flange?

Sounds easy. is it really that simple? Ok nexy question is adding the wastegate bung.

Im guessing the best situation is where all the collectors merge into 1 as close to the turbo as neccassary? When i add the wastegate bung Ill just drill a round hole in the manifold and add a pipe with a 90 bend on it. does it matter what agle the unit is mounted or is there anything special to know about it other than space and heat?

How do I measure what compressor it is?

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

You'd have to take the compressor housing off and measure the diamater of the top of the compressor and the base of the wheel.

I wouldn't worry about it, I was just curious.

its a .48/60 turbo. If you dont want to use the dodge T3 flange you can switch to a Ford T3 5 bolt style turbine housing, itll bolt right on, but the wastegate flapper is different.

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

thanks accord epicenter but I dont think that the smaller turbo will fulfill my currrent needs. Im still debating though if this is the route Im going to go. any thought on the smaller turbo you biult or the sc34 Ive got also? Itll be a street strip performer and a weekend warrior if its nice enough out

how much power and how fast do you want to go? The .60 trim compressor is good to approx 275whp and maybe mid high 12s if the setup is good...

    Re: turbo change forces rethink?

I was thinking more in the range of an easy 11.50 with a mild detune hopefully so Im not maxed out in everyway on the motor. Id still like a little streetablility to it but if the sc34 spools fast enough it doent bother me. Any guess, Im not sure how to read a turbo map.
