I have a few questions about your turbo setup. Other then just putting a turbo on the car what are you going to do to stregthen up the motor and tranny? what pistons are you using? How much boost do you plan to run? What HP numbers to you plan to get? Are you using stronger head-bolts or going with head studs? What clutch/pressure plate are you going with? What size turbo are you planning on using? What are you planning on using for tuning? What are you going to use to upgrade your fuel delivery system? You said a lot about wanting to have a turbo accord but you havent really explained how your going to build it. The more info you give the more people will be able to help you out.

good question...everything is stock, ported head, new bearings and rings.i dont have the money like that to invest. i know cheap is not the way, but i'll try JUST ABOUT anything once. such as this to see what happened for the experience. i foregot what injectors i'ma get from what car i have to ask my cousin before i got to the junk yark and get them.dyno.. wont know till i try.i probably shouldnt be doing this but as far as the computer and tunning go, thats pretty much after the fact let me get everything on and get the engine crunk....

Tuning doesnt just come after the fact, if you dont have it tuned right or a way to adjust things you can blow the motor and all the money you spent will be wasted. The cheapest you will be able to turbo the car safely will cost around $3000 for everything. It seems like you dont really have a plan and your just going to wing it, if you dont have much money then I wouldnt waste it on trying to half ass turbo your car. It will end up costing more in the end, just do it the right way the first time and take your time. You need to have patience. Start off by reading up on how everything works, it doesn't have to be 3gee specific, they all work basically the same way. Once you have an understanding on what you need and how it all works then start to gather parts. Once you have all your parts, then have the motor rebuilt so you have a stable foundation to build off of. If you want to just wing it, thats your call, but its not a good idea at all.
Heres my parts list from when i was going to turbo.
1. Turbo kit $820 (turbo, intercooler, wastegate, BOV, oil lines, etc.)
2. Manifold and downpipe $500
3. ARP head studs from mazda miata 2.0L $108
4. Rebuilt head and B18 intake manifold $230
5. Engine rebuild parts (all new gaskets, new rod bearings, new main bearings, new piston rings, OEM pistons) around $200
6. DSM 450cc injectors, clips and resistor box $100
7. Walbro 255lph fuel pump $100
8. NGK plugs $10
9. MSD blaster 2 coil $40
10. Vortech BTM $179
11. SAFC $100
12. Clutchnet red 2x pressure plate and kevlar solid hub clutch disc $383
Total for now - $2770

You would need all of it but the B18 manifold, so it costs around $3k for a good turbo build if you do all the work yourself.

tuning is the key. IF your engine is in decent condition and you are realistic with boost/power levels and tune accordingly you should be okay on a stock engine. If you spend wisely and make parts yourself like charge piping, a manifold, etc im sure you could spend way way wayyy less than 3k. Prolly do it for under 1500 if you rocked the stock engine on 7-10psi boost, but you cant skimp on fuel system and tuning, and yes, 450cc dsm injectors work great, basically a drop in part, just enlarge the bushing they sit in...

Yea, if you build your own parts it will be a lot cheaper. But with over 200k miles on the motor it probably needs to be rebuilt sooner or later.

no, youll need at least an safc and msd btm 5462. Better yet, you should go obd1. If you go with somthing cheap like an fmu, expect the engine not to last long. There have been a number of guys that have tried them, and most resulted in blown motors, wether it was a stock engine or built. You need to have good managemant and get tuned, its the only way. If you cant afford to do it, dont

I bet you can get 400whp out of an internally stock a20, with a Lot of torque. I bet I could, with what I know now, at least. People are doing that hp number with stock d16s.

why do you need one? Stock one works just fine, esp with boost. And i agree about getting alot of power out of a good stock motor. I thrashed my car, 13psi boost, hit as much as 17psi boost, tune was shitty but very conservative, never had a problem, the reason the engine died on the last couple setups were bearing issues, not headgasket/piston problems. When i pulled apart my stock motor after boosting it, the pistons looked great, as did the head and head gasket. Its all in the managemant and tune, the engine itself is pretty solid, save for the factory head bolts

Look a the list I provided. That is just what I had for my setup. The prices and parts will vary depending on what you want to do and how cheap you find/build the parts. Now if you build your own parts it will be cheaper, also if you buy good used parts it will be cheaper. Theres a way you can turbo your car at a "low" cost and it be safe and reliable, but theres no real way of doing it for cheap. You have to remember your talking about a OBD-0 car that has no aftermarket support, so some of the things you need are going to be custom made lik a manifold/downpipe combo, a OBD-0 to OBD-1 swap (if you choose to go that way), intercooler piping route. It will take a lot of reasearch and a lof of parts collecting to be ready to turbo your car, but if your serious about it then just take your time, learn and have patience.

well i started my car today and adjusted the ignition timing. ill have the video later this week, i ran out of gas(good thing)so i can put 93 in it....but once i put somme more gas in it an get on vid i'll post it. but yall really wouldnt be missing much,cause it just open headers.and it isnt moving , but this will be for those interested.
i got two bolts holding it on just wanted air pressure to get to the EGR valve. it sound great though.

-the pic that arent posted are the routing for the turbo feed an return and water cooler routings which probably wont use.
next week ima pick up the factory fitting for the turbo charge pipe/ intake, factory boost control and probably buy my own blow off valve WAHOOSHHH. and my factory exhaust manifold. Get the turbo in and start really making some progress. i need to slow myself down. i currently have SAE40 shell oil in to break the rings in an junk...but know this the very first person ima race is gone be my cousins VWjetta-ported head, cams,close gears, headers an exhaust, small shot of NOS an some weight reduction.ITS GONE BE A SIGHT TO SEE.

im going to the junkyard later this week to get the rest of my supplies for the turbo. also purchas another oil fitting for the turbo and a T-fitting an other junk. oh yeah an a radiator cap.

i tried to get some of the flams coming out of the exhaust the heat waves.

make sure you get some type of tuning. get a boost timing master to adjust the timing and a safc to control the air and fuel and you will ok with that as a tune, but it would be best to go obd-1. Also dont do any hard driving until the engine and turbo are broken in correctly of you will ruin the motor, theres a proper way to break in the motor. Also what are you doing as far as your clutch setup and manifold??

^^^ All engine builders have their own ways of breaking in motors, I have seen some done a couple different ways, and the cars that were driven fairly hard in the first while, make some damn good power. There are many online debates about break in process.

This build looks a bit interesting... good for you trying to do this for cheap, and as far as somewhat of a rebuild that should help for sure. But like the others said, the big thing is in the tune, I would highly recommend going OBD1 and then finding a tuner in your area to go with crome, uberdata, or something of the sorts.

i got a msd box but its fucked. my misstake of getting the wires mixed on the coil and fuck the box. Why dont they make a short fuse system, for ppl like me? currently things are not going the way i want. but as far as current updates. i got some vacume splits and hoses for the turbo also more water lines and installed them.

for breaking in the motor i used 40wt oil, usually ill let it run for a little while cause the car is to low to the ground to drive i have to buy spring spacers. i dorve it yesterday to my disapointment. didnt tightenup cold air intake. lol whole thing feel out and ran over filter, yeah.. put me back in the hole.

but.. plans for the exhaust manifold i keep hearing different opinions wear you can weild castiron manifolds. but i got a factory manifold an im just waiting on my cousin to get a chance to put the u-bend to rout it to the front of the manifold. form what he told me, i wouldnt have to much or really no turbo lag since its a small turbo.

updated video me racing a jetta. sorry but still n/a for right now had to see were im at. so far the car is real torquey but no top end power band for a car that turns 6500rpm. thats why im going turbo.

i prefer a tree when racing my cousin (he's dirty) but the cars were actually envenly matched, with the jetta making around 130+hp VW cars seem to just grab and go and have a great power band. my vw golf gti got some shit on it an it just constantly pulls after 3500. anyway once i get the turbo on and fuel pump in, im going for his racing jetta with a 60 shot, gears, etc. same year jetta as in the vid.
