    My custom front mount

Ever since I installed my Edelbrock intake manifold I had problems with the front mount. I had to remove the top dogbone mount and this puts more stress on the front mount. By design, the front mount isn't meant to face such forces and breaks.

I decided to solve the problem for good this week.

I got myself a B20A5 mount and bracket. This bracket bolts directly to the B20A and A20A.

    Here is the actual bracket.

I'll have to modify the angle of the bracket because the way the B20A5 leans. This is the total opposite of your Accord engines.

I decided to use my Hatchback as a guinea pig. This is mainly because I had to remove the front bumper anyway and flush the prestone. I might as well do this at the same time. Besides, if I ever hit something on the hatch, it's not going to break my heart.

I decided to remove the front bumper on the hatch. to my surprise only the front bumper mounts are rusted, reallllly rusted. The car was rustproofed all it's life so the frame and front of the car is in great condition. I just love it!

The right side support isn't that bad but I'll replace it anyway

The left side is complettly rotted. I could hear Rice Krispies sound when I removed the bolts. There's no other choice but to buy another one at Honda's

Once the rad is removed, only little rust shows on the front X-Member, that's excellent!

You can now see the stock front mount, I'm even sure you can measure the grease thickness on that one.

I removed the X-Member mount and put the engine back into place. This will be easier to replicate the same exact height.

I then cut the B20A5 bracket since it was too long and hit the Accord X-Member

I used the remaining metal to make an "L" shaped bracket to hold the mount.

I then grinded the brackets and bent them to shape.

    Re: My custom front mount

I then made a bracket to bolt the B20A5 mount and adapt it to the Accord Cross Member. You can see the 3 studs that I'll use

    Bottom view:

I used nuts as spacers and drilled them out. This spaces the place high enough to clear the bolt heads.

Here it is with the mount bolted in place.

I them welded the B20A5 bracket into the correct shape.

    Once assembled:

All I need to do now is fill this with eurethane and enjoy a really strong front mount.

Great discovery and nice work! Looks solid.
It's good to see some new development from you

Looks like it's the engine in your hatch that has been taking care of most of the rustproofing lol

Off topic question, why is that bolt there? On my 3rd gens those supports are just flat on the top.

The front bumper mount is in fact a bushing. The bolt you see is the bolt that holds the bushing in place.

    LOL

That engine is sure dirty. It doesn't leak that much. The oilpan seal needs to be replaced. I'll pull the engine in the future and paint the block. If I just clean it, the cast iron will just rust.

Oh, do I have to mention that you MUST wear gloves when working on this engine?
