This is just odd.

So I took out the floor mat in my car today to clean it, and I noticed some kind of black tar like substance leaking through a whole in the carpet. I had no idea what it could be so I just pulled the carpet on the drivers side. It turns out that the sound deadening had completely turned to black goo on that side of the car. It's fine on the passenger side, just not on the drivers side. I cleaned it all out and called it good for now. Tomorrow I'll pull all the carpet and see what the hell is up. Does anyone know what could cause this to happen? It even still had a layer of paint on the top of it.

did you spill some kind of petrol on it?

Not that I know of. It's possible that it's been this way since before I got the car though. I never really noticed it until today.
