88 intake manifold on an 87

alright.. i blew the engine in my 87 lx-i and i got a motor from an 88 with the intake secondaries... i want some advice weather to use the 88's intake manifold or the stock 87s manifold.. ive noticed that the waterpump inlets are different and have taps for coolant in different spots for each motor.. im confused to where i dont know which manifold to use... help?

i would just use the 87 manifold, then you dont have to bother adding the dual runners stuff

the 88 had 12 more hp due to the intake mani and exhaust mani but i believe u need to run a few more wires and put a 88 ecu in

black box, ecu rewireing the engine harness and running extra wires for the iacv. don't junk it it'd be a fun project later if you can get the other parts. i'm running an 89 engine exhaust and black box on a 86 ecu right now due to some tec difficulties, but it still works little rich but works for now

yeah for 12 more hp is not worth converting your car...if you want a better flowing intake manifold the b16 one is our best bet

so guys.. will the b16 manifold be a good bolt on? everything on my a20s manifold will fit on it? injectors and wiring? or will i have to do some modding? i just want to break the 130hp range.. right now i suspect im pushing somewhere around 112-120hp.. what would be a good upgrade that is affordable? and the b16 manifold comes out of the crx right? thats where id expect it to come from

What have you already got? getting rid of the stock intake is a good first step.better exhaust header/a good valve job port/polish another good step. porting and polishing can be done your self (also port matching) if your real handy with a dremel. You'll need a shop to do the valves unless your lucky enough to have that equipment.

86-87 wiring harness is completely diferent as are ecus, i dont think all that fumbling around is worth 12hp. You could swap intake manifolds and get a solenoid, vaccuum tank, and rpm activated switch to get it to work, but i believe most of the performance was from the exhaust manifold anyway

well so far i just have custom fabbed 4" intake with straight pipe from the cat.. nothing special but it sounds alot better and responds better too
