Question Parts car from japan with A20A4

Hey I just picked up an 89 accord lx from a buddy for free..its in very good shape, 2 door coupe, 5 speed, has the A20A1 carburated motor in it, just found out it has a parts car too... a 4 door 87 accord lx-i, has the pgm-fi, 5 speed, I checked out the vin number, apparently its from japan... but its left hand drive...so i dont really get it, would the japan version have more power? is it the same as the american A20? i might just swap the fuel injection over to the 2 door, wouldnt take very long, i checked out the tread to do it.. Just wondering if the japanese A20 series motor would have more power/torque?? if so i might slap the whole thing in the 2 door. Any feedback would be just wonderful, thanks.

it was made in Japan but made to be sold in the states and canada. i dont think it has more power just because its from japan. But since its a fuel injection engine its going to make more power then ur carb A20.

    Well the A20A3 in 86-87 Made 110HP and in 88-89 made 122HP
With no emissions I'm sure it makes a few more HP
    2004-2011?

Question Re: Parts car from japan with A20A4

Awsome guys, thanks alot.. Yeah I am pretty sure the A20A3/A20A4 makes around 120hp am I not correct? But thanks for the help..I am going to do the carb tp efi swap..I'm sure I can pump another 50 hp out of that motor, fuel injected n a few minor upgrades.

I almost feel like a moron asking this, but has anyone accually tried those electric superchagers that supposibly add 2-3lbs of boost?? I havent accually seen a thread where anyone leaves feedback on the device... cuz god knows when I will be able to afford a custom turbo set-up

a20a4 is not worth if it you have an a20a3. to make an a20a3 an a20a4, remove emissions equipment and presto, you have an a20a4. and no, no one has done the electric s/c. i generally don't think i should put a leaf blower in my engine bay. i think some ppl have mulled over the idea of maybe using a b16 s/c, but as far as i know, no one has actually got one up and running yet.

I have a A20A1 and i am going to do the pgm-fi swap. Which will be worth it cuz the what? 98hp? comming from the carbed motor isn't enough for me...

I started her up today, she has been sitting for just over 2 years, fired right up, lucked out... it had an empty tank of gas, so i added some premium n she was idling...well i definitly need to repace the plugs and air filter right away to have her going... she was running rough as hell, pretty sure the #2 cylinder was mis-firing.. confident the plugs are shot/old/who knows... It only has 148,000kms!!! so yeah i know she cant be too bad, needs a clutch tho, got no grab at all when i let out the clutch....unless there is something else that could be( loose/broken clutch cable?? )

And one more thing, Is the 86-87 pgm-fi intake manifold really different than the 88-89 FI Intake? If so in what way, and how much of a power difference are we talking here? And wouldi be able to do the swap, then just throw on an 88-89 intake later on with no problems??

88-89 is a Dual stage and uses a different Exhaust manifold

    it makes 122HP vs 110HP

uses a few more wires i think though

Re: Parts car from japan with A20A4

only way i see it being worth it is if you have a parts car to pull all the stuff from. because trying to buy all the parts from the jy might set you back close to or more than what it would cost to just buy a junker-status efi car and pull all the parts you need to convert carb to efi. and besides cat, you can remove egr, pcv, ecu, and a couple other parts to get rid of emissions equipment. and yes, the intake does make part of the difference. the other part of the difference is that that 88-89 efi accords also use 4-2-1 headers vs the 4-1 headers on all 86-89 carbed accords and 86-87 efis. and if i'm not mistaken, there's minor cam differences as well.
