    Labeledsk8r's 89 LX-i coupe update thread

Well its about time to get one of these started on my car... i wasn't able to keep track of some work that i have already done. i posted a thread when the car was first bought found here: https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63806 . i wont repost the pics in this thread just due to laziness.

heres some random cell pics i have that were taken that just happen to have my car in it to get the ball rolling

My GF's civic and my accord (yes i work on D engines )

a random pic of danceing shoping carts with my car in the background

So theres how I will start this off... I have updates already but I will save them for new posts and will get them posted asap

MAN, you've gotta get that thing clean! If you can make it, I have one of those steamers, and they work wonders without soaking your engine bay.

And I still have those fog covers, if you haven't found any yet.

    Re: Labeledsk8r's 89 LX-i coupe update thread

update time, my calipers were locking up so i figured it would be good to redo my front brakes, sadly i went with blanks for rotors but will go drilled next time. i used cheepo blanks with organic pads, reman calipers and Braided SS brake lines, heres some pics

it feels so nice to be on new brakes and have no problems feels much safer..

i allso ordered some i <3 my honda stickers for my accord and my girls civic (thanks monky!) so we went and washed the cars and took some pics here they are

well there it is for now... and sorry for all the cell pics

Wow. All you need is that set of foglight covers. One of these days...

If you're off this weekend, we have a pretty big thing going on here for Memorial Day. Lasts all weekend, good bands play throughout the whole fest. Might be cool to get you guys up here.

I run them on crown vics and impalas at work and never had one crack, and believe me they take a beating. These cars are hot seated 24/7 . The CD rotors make the pads last a lot longer and resist warpage.

I suppose different manufacterers and vehicle specifi applications could play into the likelyhood of troubles.

Labeledsk8r you car is looking good

A18a and AccordB20a I was wondering what the... the other day I was going to reply to something one of you said but it was the other one.. the dam sigs mind fuck trick.. lol I just realized it when you posted side by side..im kinda slow huh

    Re: Labeledsk8r's 89 LX-i coupe update thread

Brakes look good. Props on the SS lines, they were definitely an improvement over stock.

As for rotors, I might as well add my 2¢ to this too. I have Brembo c/d rotors front and rear, and under normal to heavy street use, I highly doubt any decent quality c/d rotor will crack. That being said, don't just go buy blanks, drill some holes in them and expect them not to crack. They will.

The only time I've seen decent c/d rotors crack is under heavy track use. They dissipate heat better, but the drillings to weaken the structure a little. After a heavy track day, it's best to do some 'cool down' driving, where you allow the rotors to be heated down, instead of driving hard and heating the snot out of the rotor, then just parking it when you're done with your race. They will most likely fail prematurely.

If you like the look of c/d, but don't do much more then aggressive daily driving, I would consider going with dimpled and/or slotted rotors. Aggressive looks, and solid, but the dimplings and slots do still allow the gases and heat to escape effectively. (Of course there are plenty of arguments about the dimples actually causing gases to get trapped on the surface between the pad and reduce friction, thus reducing stopping power, but I have yet to see anyone prove that.)

Man the white LXi coupe is looking nice! And +1 to Mark's comment about the brakes, I agree whole heartedly. Mark, are your Brembo rotors the OE blanks that are drilled or do you have an upgraded set? I have some Brembo OE blanks that are drilled and slotted after the fact, and they have yet to crack on me, but I don't put them through anything more hardcore than an autocross every now and then.

    Re: Labeledsk8r's 89 LX-i coupe update thread

thanks everyone for the comments, sadly it doesnt look as well in person the pics really blend out its problems.

and yeah mike thats what i have allways known on rotors. extreme heat up and cool down is what creates stress cracks etc. and i would NEVER try to drill my own rotors only takes 1 hole to be off 1/10th of a mm to throw the rotors out of balance. i was looking at brembos but just dont have the money for them so i figured id wait till next time.

my next project comeing up is the damn steering rack... looks like a fun job
