Hey guys. So my 88lx runs rich all the time so I want to test the TW sensor to make sure that it isn't telling the car that it is bone cold all the time but I can't find the sensor. From the bottom I can see the sender for the gauge(green/yellow single wire,correct?) but I don't see a two wire sensor back there. I know it is on the thermstat housing on the FI cars but can not locate it on my carbed one. Can someone please chime in on it's location on the carbed engines?
i didnt know carbs had them? sensors on carbs use vacuum lines. sound fun?
I'm looking at the circuit diagram for the carbed engine and it incorporates a thermoswitch for the ECU (just doesn't tell me where the damn thing is!!!)
The coolant temp sensor is on the back of the block. Its toward the top and a little past center I believe towards the thermostat housing. Been a while since I've seen mine since i converted to FI.

isnt that one a vac switch thermovalve that goes in the black box to the electrical switch which is technically the sensor ?
You know I read that ten times and still am not 100% that I understand what you are saying,lol. I would not be surprised if it actually activates something in the black box to tell the frequency valves to lean or richen the charge. But I am no expert on reading circuit diagrams and can't really tell how the two are interconnected. The service manual shows how to test it at the solenoid control unit under the seat, but I am not ambitious enough tonight to pull the seat out,ha ha.
Quick add on question. Anyone change the o2 sensor on one of these? I have tried every angle I can think of to get a wrench on the thing and just can't see a way to do it without removing the exhaust manifold.
mine's fi but i went at it from the bottom with a wrench
