Welcome to the board. Where you located?

Honestly, an AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, NAPA, (basically any auto parts store) should have the axle in stock, or at worst, get it in a day or two. You'll most likely have a core charge though, so if you have the ability to take yours off, and bring it to the parts store when you pick up the new one (obviously you'd have to borrow someone elses car to make this happen), you can just give them the core right there on the spot and not have to front the $$ for the core charge.

Re: my 88 hatchback gonna work on it

when i got the car it had a tattered alpine cassette head unit with no display at all and someone had put rear speakers in and those were falling apart so i replaced them both

custom boxed 6x9 pioneer speakers super crisp sound not overwhelming good highs lows and mids

my sony CDX-GT320 xplode head unit with sub out, it comes with a sony sub model separate that i might get later on

heres some under the hood shots hasnt been clean recent tune-up/oil change, new plugs/wires etc. air/fuel filter, just had the distributor and timing belt replaced and my timing fixed runs a lot smoother

    needs to be cleaned

here a shot of the cosmetic damage i need to fix as well from a wreck that my dad got in

thats all i got for now

sounds good to me. I'm not a red fan either, but it's the only hatch with a black interior.

very true my front seats are falling apart from seat belt wear and foams coming off of the drivers side all the time when i get around to redoing the interior its all black just want the car to pretty much be black/black/black as far as exterior interior and rims, but the black molding and bumpers looks best with the red hatches imo

Re: my 88 hatchback gonna work on it

so i havent been on a computer to update in a while but my car needs some work right now i still need a new windshield, a wash cause my car is still covered in ash from the fire in monterey that blew ash all the way up through san jose, umm i think it was a new cd boot? my steering is fucked up and i clicks when i turn, and new front axle components on the right side, i also recently busted a hose on my left front caliper due to some idiot flying out without stopping on a T intersection that i had the right away and it cause me to swerve and break and then my car was leaking fluids my mechanic also told me im gonna need new pads and rotars in ~2000 miles, and i need new seats and/or seat covers cause there falling apart, dont you just love it!! oh and my muffler has cracks in it so i need to get a new muffler i was thinking of finding that Carbon Fibre muffler that has an okay sound but how does it sound on low rpms i want that car to rumble, then engine is already pretty loud on the mid-high rpms so i like that, but if i had some nice muffler that would make it insane, let me know

Re: my 88 hatchback gonna work on it

    holy lack of punctuation batman!

    Ok, where to start...

all the clicking when you turn and cv boot is caused by the same thing. Just replace the axle (cv shaft, or whatever the next person wants to call it. it's all referring to the same part). The brakes are painfully easy to replace. I would suggest doing it yourself, and a small amount of the money you'll spend from not paying someone to do it, and get yourself a rear-disc swap while you're at it. All the brake work is fairly easy to do, and only requires basic hand tools.

As for the seats, I would just slap a pair of seat covers on them for now, then worry about them later.

Muffler, etc, I would just buy the muffler, and bring the car to a muffler/exhaust shop and pay someone another 200 to take off your entire cat-back and replace it with custom bent 2.25" piping and have them weld/clamp your muffler to that whole system. You'll get a little better WOT performance on the highway. Not really any hp/power gain, just better response.

The carbon fiber is just a wrap on a stainless muffler in 99% of the one's you'll see out there and are only for looks. They don't have any performance gains over a decent muffler. I say save the money on the c/f muffler, and get a SuperTurbo "CherrryBomb" center/offset muffler from AutoZone for $30 and use that instead. Sleeper style.

As for noise, if you want to hear a cool sound, just flip your air cleaner lid (don't forget to tighten up the wing-nuts when you flip it). Sounds pretty cool just from doing that.

Don't expect a rumble from this car. It's not that goofy flat-four Subaru motor, or a V of any size, it's just a single-cam 4-banger. It's pretty much impossible to get a rumble from it. The closest you'll get to that is with an exhaust leak, and trying to drive the thing in 5th at 25 mph.

Good luck with it, and please take care of it. That phoenix red hatch was only available in '88 and only in DX trim. By no means is it recognized outside of 3G's as a rare car, nor could it be sold as a rare car, but let's call it 'very uncommon'.
