i've seen people dodge bullets, this is the biggest one i've seen yet.

the owner of the car is my friend ben. who amazingly came out of this accident with only a broken femur and some scratches. and his passenger walked away with scratches...

if the pole was 1ft more to the back of the door, ben would have been dead.

he was doing almost roughly 100kph when he tried to avoid a car that cut him off and nailed the post.

From what I learned over the years, if someone cuts you off, don't try to avoid him at all costs. The other car "deserves" to be in the crash and cars are made to absorb impacts, poles are not. You'll get less damage from hitting a car than hitting a pole.

Of course, it's easy to say this in front of my keyboard, might be different behind the wheel.

.a few other people have siad the same thing to me. yes it used to be yellow.. in one of the pics you can see it on the passenger side inside door... thats fucking creepy... really creepy... guess someone tried to avoid it by painting it a different color.

if i remember correctly, our 3gees have a safer and stiffer frame structure than the civics did of that time period. i know when mine got hit it wasnt anywhere close to being that bad. but i didnt slam into a pole either, just a 1 ton truck. but man, that civic crx is like a tin can. key is dont drift fwds!

yes the crx's are basically tin cans, the accord is a much stronger and safer car. i've worked on both and the sheet metal in the crx is very flimsy. this is one of the un talked about reasons why honda stopped making it. it couldn't meet the newer safety requirments without total redesign. one of the weak points on it is the b pillar,it collapses and the car folds up. another thing about our accords is the steel tube reinforcing right behind the steering wheel. the dash in our cars is designed to go upwards in a crash instead of down.

Clay told me we almost lost Ben last night,Bone marrow from his femur got into his blood stream,ending up in his lungs and it made him bleed internally,they had to get it out and give him a blood transfusion. The up-side being that this is over as far as we know and his vital's are back up,he had alot of oxygen in his blood aswell,from losing so much.Clay is going over to see him again and hopefully everything will be looking alot better. its a shock to me from hearing that earlier in the day he was lifting his leg up in the air...but none the less we're pulling for you Ben and as Clay said,now the real recovery is going to begin.

lesson,if you drive a crx,get a proper cage and five point belts,real ones. you can buy the cages already ready to go in and theres nio back seat anyway so easy.
