    Small cruise controll question

Do you guys know if the main cruise button is interchangable between the 87 and 89? the 87's button works great, but the 89's is stuck on. I poped the 87's out and its a little diffrent looking but still very similar.. but it seems to have everything at the same place.

From what I've noticed, the only differences are the button shape, size of the piece itself, and the type of bulb used. Otherwise, I think you're good to go.

    Re: Small cruise controll question

So, i just swapped them out and it works fine, but on the swich that came with the 89, the backlight works, but the green indicator dosnt, and nither does the button. On the replacement, the backlight dosnt work, but the indicator and swich do.. I guess i'll just pick up another one.

    Thanks for the help, gents!

Those things are easy to rebuild. Take apart the broken one and see if it's something you're willing to futz with.

My switch needs replacing too. The switch works, but when it's on the green light sometimes stays off. Other times it works fine. Guess I'll try swapping it out.

Not to jack a thread, but my light on the 3 switch combo (dash light dimmer, rear defroster one), one of the bulbs died, is it easy to replace?

    Re: Small cruise controll question

^ Yep. Just take the combo out, use a small flat-head to twist the bulb out, replace with one from a junkyard.

Mine decides to work once in a while. Any way to fix this? Sometimes it works right away, and sometimes the light will just turn on with the Cruise button, but the one on the steering wheel won't trigger the system to set it.

    Re: Small cruise controll question

There is an '89 shop manual for download here. The troubleshooting section for the cruise control starts on p. 25-71. See if that helps.
