    Re: Gp02a0083's hatchie thread

guys im on the fence as what to do with my hatch, im planning on fixing the wheel arches to get rid of the typical rust. Im still looking for a whole liftgate for my hatch still as the rust is now chewing it up pretty good. If anyone in the north east can find a hatch lid in mint condition and pick it off the car i will take the ride to get it plus whatever the cost of it is (obviously)

Ive been going back and forth if i even should really do the work to the car and buy something else. Its getting frustrating finding parts, most of the local stores don't even carry the front rotors for the car anymore. I'm estimating that i am gonna end up putting about 1k into it, the 3g accord has really grown on me since ive been driving them since 2003. I would really hate to sell this car after i saved her from the junkyard in 05'.

im just pretty down about the whole subject, i really dont know what direction i should take.....

    Re: Gp02a0083's hatchie thread

heres a picture of the car at my fathers shop getting an alignment done

guys i really really need help sourcing a tailgate for my hatch , doesnt matter , any color as long as its not dented the heck up and rusted and has a good peice of glass in it too. Like i said im willing to drive north of NJ to get this.

I recieved my wheel arch panels yesterday from mill supply, they seem great only issue that i have is that they sent me 2 left (drivers) side panels. One for the 2dr hatch/coupe and the other is for a 4 door lol. Thier customer service is great, didnt have a problem with getting this issue fixed , only downside is that i will have to wait 13 busineuss days to get the right part.

Also if anyone can cut out the gas tank filler area ( the pocket isnt a big issue , i need the "square" and about 8 inches of metal around it)
I cannot fabricate this part without it looking like garbage. I need to get this ASAP before the winter and the salt comes around.

You'll have a nice car once the wheel arches are fixed.

    Keep it

    Re: Gp02a0083's hatchie thread

well things might not be so bad after all. there is kinda a creepy back story, 5 years ago to the day i wrecked my first 89 black lx-i hatch right after a heavy downpour of rain. Today however, i ended up buying one.

1989 LX-i Black hatch,I am now the second owner, I would say mint tan interior (the cargo lid looks like its never been used), NO RUST at all in the wheel wells or anywhere else on the car except a small ding in the rear lower taillight panel. Picked it up with 57,000 mi, a few dings here and there but very workable. This car was garage kept for the past 16 years, the last five it has been outside but not driven in the snow. Also i have the records for this car, it was serviced at Burns Honda of Marlton in NJ for the past 21 years. Mechanically the car is sound, the a/c compressor doesn't work, but that's nothing to change out The only thing that worries me is that the automatic in it shifts extremely firm, not neck braking. I also noticed that the acceleration is much better in the 89 than in my rebuilt 87. Its defiantly feels a lot different than the 87's rebuilt trans that goes into each gear smoothly. Everything is barely broken in , hell the brake and gas pedals barely have any scuffing from use. The black hatch has a SE-i rear disc conversion waiting for it at my house, along with a few other goodies.

Anyway pictures of my black hatch i had 5 years ago:

We ended up taking most of the 89's suspension for the larger brakes and the brand new lower control arm and axle:

And now for the new one (pictures didn't come out so bad taking them with my cell phone):

    Worst dent on the car:

Even the rear wells are pretty clean:

I will be looking for a tan SE-i style armrest soon along with the extended console in tan with our without cup holders.

As Far as the the gold car is concerned i'd really hate to sell her but i'm going to have to. It will be posted in the for sale section in a few weeks.

Be glad that trim piece is removable, although I don't know how easy it will be to find a black hatch (I've actually never seen one), so you might have to paint it.

most likely ill do some bodywork to that part. I am just amazed by the interior its showroom quality. Because of my work schedule i will be picking her up next Saturday. The guy was selling this for his 91 year old mother, he was asking 1900, i talked him down to 1500

    Nice stuff!

If you need a tan console and armrest, I think I have 2 here haha. The elbow pads are torn tough.

You can have the console for free if you want and just pay for shipping. (don't know how much it would be)

    wow nice find !

also on the tranny, try making sure the TV cable is moving freely and no binding, surprizing how many of these I run across that are totally out of adjustment etc..

question, who's blue car is this in the pic?

    Re: Gp02a0083's hatchie thread

thanks carotman, maybe ill be able to start learning upholstering work with the arm rest.

Roodoo i wasnt aware that the automatics on these hondas had TV cables ( my olds has one on a 200-4r trans and if not set properly it can ruin the trans quickly) I really dont think anything is wrong with it , probally just needs the fluid top'd off and the cable adjusted. Im a bit confused here is there a seperate kickdown cable , or is that what the TV cable is on the 3 geez? and the blue car was another Pa member, xx littlexxo bit or something like that. I ended up getting my rear disc swap from him after he ended up buying a baseline cobalt

Also i think this might be a prime candidate for a 5 speed swap........

CAH, i would probably be selling it later on in October, i currently will be driving it until the back hatch is all set with reg. and inc. The gold car has 190k on it as of now, new tires, pwr steering rack, and a rebuilt trans that has 15k on it. Most of the miles on this car were highway.

if you still have it for sale in November i would fly out there and drive her back the low millage auto is a huge plus too as i have been wanting a reliable automatic car (LA traffic with a 5speed = ftl!)

    Re: Gp02a0083's hatchie thread

so far so good with the car, it runs and rides like brand new. I have been noticing tho it seems to shift a bit odd. When i got the car home i checked the fluid level and it seemed a tad low, added some fluid and it shifts a bit better. I am noticing that 1st and 2nd shift great, seems like 3rd and 4th shift odd. The fluid was pretty clean , except it had a slight burn smell to it. 3rd gear doesn't seem to slip but it seems like it hangs in there either till im past 45. ( i consider 4th to engage around 45 and the converter not much after that). I was thinking maybe the car just needs to be run, the previous owner probably never had the car above 35mph in town driving.

i was thinking first to try a fluid swap with the AZ-1 honda fluid being that the car was dealer maintained , might as well keep following the manufacturer's service plan. Other than that i can only think of the TV cable , but to me that would affect shifting across the board from 1-4th plus lockup.
