Lightbulb Hi compression pistons for EL engines.

I was wondering if there is a high compression piston suitable for an EL engine, after some research i found some ppl in Argentina that makes forged pistons for racing cars, they told me that they can make a set of high compression pistons for my car but the price is very high, almost usd 800. I wonder if i can use a high compression set from another honda model or another brand to save some money...

Re: Hi compression pistons for EL engines.

My engine has dished pistons,is an 1979 EL engine, and i want some more compression (domed or flat pistons),i think that flat pistons are enough to make the compression rise to something around 9:1. I had a shaved EL head that gave me 10:1 readings, but prefer just the flat/domed pistons, to keep my head untouched.

PS: My shaved head had a corrosion problem(water going to the pistons),thats why i am changing to a new stock one.

you should check out other piston companies

    http://www.jepistons.com/
    http://www.diamondracing.net/
    http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com/building.html

they all could build you a custom piston if you send them in a stock one and they could calculate what kind of compression you want to get

    1989 Honda Accord LX-i
    B18c1 swap since 7/2011
    175whp and 132tq

The pistons in my 83 EL that I gave the head to John from were completely flat. Unless you plan on building up and remachining the piston crown or the combustion chamber, those are the best you can get.

Thanks everyone! I will chose the flat pistons from the 83 EL engine with a thin head gasket to make some more compression,my parts dealer will change my new dished pistons for the flat ones almost for free...great!!

Why not go through Venolia pistons in the US? They already have the specs needed to make them too. Here is the response I received when enquiring about a set in April:

    Hello Kurt

Forged pistons for your car are $ 88.90 ea
pin fitting ,pins ,rings etc are extra
    5-6 weeks to make.
    Thank You
    Dan

You may want to check on fitting a set of 83's in an earlier block. I do not think the pistons swap over from the 79-81 to 82-83 motors. I looked into using flat EL pistons in my EK block (which are dished) and they would not swap over without mods due to the size of the rods.

PS - are you sure you do not have an EK block? The EL pistons I have came accross in 79-81 EL motors were flat. The EK's were dished on account of the longer stroke (which accounted for the extra 150 CC's)

Well, both engines a have are 1.6 EL, one is a 1979 from an Accord, and the other is an 1983 from a Quint (Quintet) i will just use the newer (1983) engine, with new flat pistons for the 1983 model year. The previous Quint pistons were dished i dont know why, maybe they imported low compression cars because of bad fuel over here at the time.
