    how to time a b20a5

friend just bought a 88 lude for $500. has a b20a5 that jumped time and bent the valves. the guy had someone do a valvejob on it and he had it timed but someone said he had it timed wrong so he was like screw it and let it sit in his yard for 3 years. i checked it and everything is good just not sure how to time it.

should be a notch on the flywheel that you can see form the lil hole and a notch on the cam gears

the one on the flywheel for the 3g is a T or + and the cam gear should be an arrow you can also tell by the dizzy cap
and if you take the first plug out the piston should be all the way up i belive look up top dead center you might be able to find more

what little whole are you talking about?

i thought it was that easy. put it in TDC and align the cams. there is a notch on the intake and exhaust cam. are these notches supposed to be lined up with eachother?

not sure on a dual cam i know on the a20 it has to be lined up with the vc nut i think

and there should be a lil view hole by the tranny
it might have a plug in it but there normally buy the motor model stamp

edit you my want to go ask on www.preludepower.com
they might have more readable answers

yea i know what hole it is now. i remember seeing the marks on the cam gears of a b18 and they were lined up with each other. now all i need to know is how to put the top end in time.

i think $500 for the car was a steal. its a 2.0si with 4 wheel steering.

so when its a tdc all the valves for the cyl. that is all the way up should be closed right.

im sure thats correct i just want to get it right and reaure him that i know what im doing.

you can tell if the valves are closed by popping off the valve cover right.

there should be marks on the cam gears , you line them up to each other, and the head will be at TDC on the #1 cylinder, then turn the crank to TDC, and put the belt on
