    $500 animal bite

I have a male cat thats been neutered, and he likes to go out at night prowling, understandable.

So last week I notice he got bit in the ass by some unknown animal. Now after a week of saline flushes and him growling at me. The open wound was looking good didn't close immediately as it shouldn't.

So after a week and some of his fur falling off the wound area, I noticed two other puncture wounds that have closed and and begun to swell. Bad combination.

So long story shorten. I take him to the vet looks at the wound that I had drained (boy, was the cat pissed at me for that) The vet say that he needs to open it and debried the would, because an infectous abcess has developed.

    "POW" $509.00

Kind of funny though, I told my wife that if its more than $500, we're putting him down. So do I not come up with another $9 to save the kids cat.

Believe me, I grew up that if an animal got so sick or injured and they couldn't recover with home care we put them down. But as you get older with your own kids. I just can't bring myself to that way of life anymore.

    Ouch!!
Been in that situation before with the Vet, Having two dogs it can get pretty expensive, 2 years ago I spent Thanksgiving Day at the Vet with my oldest dog, we spent almost 350.00 if I remember correctly and along with that I came home to a cold turkey dinner

you know i look at it this way you can tell the kid the cat ran away or pay out the ass i say give the kid a life lesson and get a new cat
now if it were a siamese or a cat that was over 500 to begin with i say go for it but if its a basic run of the mill domestic cat get a new one
    i know its harsh
    but
thats alot of money for a cat
this is one reason why all my cats are indoor
i actually just brough in a stay
    hes a lynk point siamese

    i have 4 now lol

yes it is a good lesson for kids about death, prepares them for handling that emotion
The cat will be hurting for a while and have a bit of PTSD, and stil a chance it may not recover

animal shelters are euthenising unwanted domestic pet breeds in record numbers these days, finding another good cat would not be so hard

my girlfriend works for a vet hospital in a very swanky part of WA and people will whip out their debit cards or black cards and drop 3...4...5k on a vet bill

Thumbs up Re: $500 animal bite

Most of the procedures available to humans are also now available to animals, and the costs are about the same. MRI? No prob...$1200. Specialist for eyes/ears/g.i. they're right there waiting. Cancer care....get out the checkbook MAJOR.

My neighbor's lab got cancer on the shoulder. Operation, special hospital for 60 days or so, other visits....final tally $12,000. Ker Chink! Another friend adopted a blind, deaf cat from the ASPCA because "no one else would." This guy has other troubles also, and I'm sure this woman is way over $10k at this point. Previously, her cockatiel (small bird) walked around in her house and probably chewed on some lead paint. The bird was 90 days at a very expensive bird vet, and I'm sure he also approached $10,000.

Now these people are pretty well off and can afford to indulge their loyalty and love for their pets, but good grief!
