    Took it back to R12

Well I just got done putting the old girl back to R12 and it hit 38 degrees, I haven't seen 38 degrees since before I converted to R134a in 97.

I did notice that the evaporator was mostly covered with debri probably was a cause of the R134a not cooling effectively.

So if you don't have the ability to keep it R12, make sure you clean the evap completely.

Everything was completely removed and flush, new O-rings and a new R12 drier.

I got 38 degrees with 134a. Of course, it was way overcharged and pissed out all the freon a year later.

Where are you getting R12 now? It can't possibly be cheaper than those $7 cans of 134 at Wal-Mart.

Well I challenged the EPA 609 test online and can now buy R12, I get off ebay.

You can buy it by the can but it averages around $15-$20 a can. I bought the 30 lb tank so it averages out $14 a pound.

The test is only $24.95 online and its a open book test. No time limit, if you can't pass this test you deffinately don't need to be working with R12.

I haven't found the sweet spot yet. Have to get better gauges. Couldn't hook up the high side for some reason.
