So, I check my chiltons, and I haven't been able to find my magnetic pickup on my distributor, anybody know. Pictures are also nice if you do.

dx? it's under the reluctor magnet in the dizzy.
87 prelude si (A20A3) which two wires is it running our of the dist?
i'll look in my book when i get home, fuel injected?
yeah, fuel injected, Hitachi dizzy
bump
should be three right?
Black out of dist. goes to capacitor
Black yellow out of dist. goes to coil primary
Blue out of dist goes to opposite pole coil primary
well, the instructions say to go too the magnetic pickup. It says there is a + and -, so would that correlate to the two wires going to the coil?
anyone else install a btm on a A3?
Timing advance is controlled by vacuum and is mechanical not electronic on the a20. The other pickups are just cylinder position and top dead center.
i know that the a20 is vaccum advance, I was just wondering where the two magnetic pickup lines went. I checked my chiltons and found nothing on a magnetic pickup. Correct me if i am wrong, but the magnetic pickup tells when a point in the distributor passes by? I believe this to be one of the 3 wires running out of the dizzy, my question being which two pertain to the btm if at all?
Check the instrunctions that came with the BTM. You only have tdc and cylinder position in the dizzy so if it requires an actual position your going to be out of luck.
Off the top of my head one of the pickups wires are orange and orange/blue and the other is white and white/blue or brown and brown/blue.
This is off the top of my head so the colors might not be exact. Find the manuals/wiring diagrams and good luck.
the magnetic pickup only corresponds with electronically advancing distributors. What color is the wire is the ignition trigger?
isn't that for a 6A msd box? I was looking for btm instructions.
all 6 series box's wire up the same even the btm.
I see, but the diagrahm in the instruction manuel says there is only 1 line that goes to the points on the dizzy. That diagrahm has two wires that just go back to the coil. Would I be able to do this by just using the magnetic pickup lines since there are two of them?
if it's strickly a btm, tie the red to the black/yellow on the coil.(don't cut it just splice into it.)
cut the blue wire just before the coil and tie the dizzy side to the white wire on the btm and the yellow wire from the btm to the coil side blue wire.
edit:forget that you read "magnetic pickup" it just doesn't apply.

To the o.p., you should really convert to obd1..
magnetic pickup only applies to electronically advance distributors, right?, my instruction manuel has no yellow, but a orange going to the - side of the coil. same thing, different color?

before i say anything else. Which flipping box do you have?
MSD Universal Boost Timing Master PN 5462. In the diagrahm WITHOUT a magnetic pickup, I have red and orange wires going to the coil, a white one going to the dizzy (it says to "points") and a ground and the controll knob.
do they appear on A20A3 distributors? I didn't see anything in my book about it. I thought my engine applied to the btm instructions in the "breaker and points" section
Inside the distributor there are 2 like I mentioned above. One is TDC and the other is cyl position.
And as far as the manual you should be looking at the for Honda section even though our dizzys are vacc advance not electronically controlled.
