    how to: changing brake master cylinder

    if you haven't guessed (in which case you haven't read my trollfest in the suspension forum), i changed my brake master cylinder. here's a little how-to from it in case anyone wants to duplicate my success (for once!).

    yes, you will in fact need to open up your hood

    and there's the target of our interests

    remove the vacuum hose going to brake booster and the tree that holds it up and also the tree holding the cc cable (if your car has it) and vss cable

    loosen (but don't remove yet) bmc from firewall (12 mm socket)

    loosen brake lines (flare wrench = ++; it's a 10 mm)

    now loosen it from the firewall the rest of the way and then loosen lines and remove quicker than possible

    this comes in extremely handy right now. chances are you did indeed spill some fluid. spray spray spray. (but please don't try that if your engine is hot)

    ok here's the new one

    ...

    not NECESSARY, but will really make life easier later. bench bleed it. find some hose that fits (or maybe yours came with a bench bleed kit already and loop it like so)

    clamp it down level

    fill it with fluid and then give the piston a couple good pushes until you see most of the bubbles gone

    then empty it or not. rush it into position

    retighten the brake lines

    now for the torque wrench

    put on the firewall bolts and torque them down (132 in/lb = 11 ft/lb)

    and that's it, you're done!

    ^yeah i dont like it when no one helps either lol, i wonder if sticking a 1 way valve on the hose will let you do it by yourself. i use vice grips to undo the lines instead of a 10mm ring spanner, less chance of it slipping and ruining the nut thingy
