Its getting a little gruesome in here...

Hello ladies and gentleman, I come to you from the land of domestics! I've just recenty purchased my first Honda, an 89' Accord lx-i... Car is in decent shape, just have a few things I'll have to do to it to make it reliable again, needs cv joints, oil pump, and timing belt... I'll probably be tearing the motor apart sometime next week, shouldn't take too long. Paint on the car is terrible, but the interior is pretty immaculate has the black/tan dash combination, which I had not seen before. I used to be a Honda technician, but have since moved on. I'll get y'all some pictures up here sooner or later. Anyone know of a good place to buy good used parts? Also, how long will I be safe to drive the car with the oil pump in rough shape? Its putting out around 35psi when highway cruising, but when in city driving after being on interstate for a while it drops to 7-9 when at idle. I'd like to be able to drive this car to work for a few days to get a feel for the gas mileage to expect. I drive around 80 miles/day interstate. Thanks for your time... Matt.

    Fuck mustangs!...

Similar repairs done to my '89, similar commute too!
If the oil pressure's that low, I'd just use the mustang until you can get a new oil pump on it.

I get 32-38mpg in mixed driving.

you can probably get by with just replacing the seals in the pump, $16.00 from HONDA Dealer. The work is just like replacing a water pump, easy as pie because the timing belt drives the oil pump on these like the T belt drives the water pump on most other Hondas.
There is a round o ring , odd shaped seal inside the pump that gets brittle and cracks. This lowers the oil pressure at different temps.

http://www.pullapart.com/ go to this link and put in your area, they are super good prices. You can check each yards inventory and prices on line too.

I get up to 40 MPG on the interstate with my DX f5 speed, 15 inch wheels.

I'll definitely look into that, I'm hitting up pull a part this week o look for some 5sp swap parts. Its pretty nice having a car that is nice and quiet, and I can go over speed bumps. Thanks for the welcome.

Your pump is well out of spec, but if you're pulling the engine anyway, maybe it won't matter?

Definitely post pics sooner than later.
