    malaysian 81' accord sedan brochure

hie guys. i have had this for some time but it is in anything but mint condition. it got found it in an atlas my uncle passed to me in 1995. he did have an 81' accord that he bought new, totaled in 1989 and re-taxed in 1990. hehe.. it turned turtle... anyway, i have taken some pics of it (i have no scanner) sorry... but i hope it could give most of you an idea of the malaysian specs, the old 1981 accord had to offer in malaysia. some specs defer from the brochure but most remain constant. like license plate lamps werent similar ti what was offered to us. also i believe malaysia did not get door mirrors on both sides. instead we just got one for the driver's side. im sorry the pics look pretty beaten. i got the brochure mint in 1995, but i was just 9 years old at that time. thank god i wasnt into graffiti. anyway, if anyone wasnt to clean the original pics, do feel free to do so. let me know and il send it to you. regards, dev....

That is pretty awesome! Crap that reminds me, I still have to finish scanning my other catalog. It sucks that the pages are too big for my scanner. It takes like 8 scans to get one complete page...

Re: malaysian 81' accord sedan brochure

im not too sure about how much they were. i keep getting different quotes. my dad told me that in late 1979 he wanted to get a metallic green accord (replica of jose amoy's green1g). it was i think just 1 year old at that time. the guy was asking RM28,000 (around USD$8,500) very steep in its day ecspecially for a used japanese car in the late 70s. i asked a guy who bought his new and still runs it, he said his was a jdm but low spec apart from the factory silver metallic paint in 1981. he said he got his for RM34,000 (around USD$11,250) brand new. he said it cost him around RM2,000 (USD$750) to opt for it to be a jdm. but his hasnt got the frills of the usual jdm as it was low spec, apart from the metallic paint of course. i heard that the square light models were offered by some private importers for a lot more, around RM40,000 or maybe more depending on the specs....a lot of money. anyway, i plan to make a trip down to the honda dealership (Kah motors) to confirm the prices.

well back to 1979, my dad decided that RM28,000 was certainly wayyy too much for a used accord, though mint. just to let you know what RM28,000 would be worth. lets say dad got imself a used W114 1968 Mercedes Benz 200 with a built in kelvinator refridgerator in the boot/trunk, rear a/c blowers, a rare optional front bench seat for just RM14,500....those were the days.....

Re: malaysian 81' accord sedan brochure

gosh!!! I have no idea where to start. one thing is for certain is that argentina had the similar specs to what we had in malaysia.except, in malaysia we got 165/13 tyres and argentina had 155/13. also the colour options and interior colours were different as well. in fact i even have a feeling that both the brochures were printed at the same place and period. the silver car from the second picture looks the same as the one as i had in the second page of my malaysian brochure. amazing! and jose, congrats on keeping your brochure in immaculate shape....its in far better shape than mine. i promise that when i get back il use my 6mega pixel cam and take some pics of the brochure...i may even borrow a scanner, judging by the response from all at 1geez.

i also noticed that the hook opening lock/latch at the kick panel had a very unique cover around it. i have never seen this before and find it very interesting as it looks elegant. would love to have it on my car as it would go great with the theme of my car.

also, i would want to ask anyone, jose, 79cord and it might be a teaser for john; what colour code is this car? i have never seen this colour (as in standard 1g colour) the main reason im asking is because this colour looks very very familiar. ecspecially with the interior. hehe.....

ic....my car was painted traventine beige. a colour adapted from the mercedes benz colour chart in the dupont brochure. jose, if you do see any cars in argentina that have the original provence beige metallic colour, do post it on the site. i wanna see how close the colour is to mine....regards to all..

Haha me too. Every single Accords I've seen in real life are repainted in non factory color, or beige.

Funny that I've seen 3 Accords that started its life as beige, which later repainted to silver/goldish color as yours.

Re: malaysian 81' accord sedan brochure

haha...true hazwan. however i dont know bout ur place, taiping but at my place, ipoh, most of the accords that were born metallic green/blue/silver seems to have retained the metallic paint all the life of the car. and as u did say the beige cars also had a habbit of retaining their colours as well. many others did re-paint their car different colours. my dad initially wanted to do his is blue but since the interior was beige, that idea was scrapped. maroon and silver were other options but since those colours were common, i thought i would be different. hence we retained beige as the colour. jus tat we used metallic this time round.

thing is, till i saw the brochure, i never thought there were other accord 1geez out there with such paint colour from the factory. it was to me a rather rare colour. besides, mine isnt exactly gold or silver. in real time it looks more brown that gold. regards, dev....

I think I know your color, my car was metallic beige silverish before it was painted blue.

Can't wait to see it in person!

BTW hows the tint holding up? I'm still debating wheter to get high quality branded (expensive!) tint or those cheap stuffs.

Re: malaysian 81' accord sedan brochure

ur car was metallic beige as well?? tats cool.... do scan some pics and post em k? love to c them. anyway, as for the tint. i got the cheap stuff.....not terribly cheap but not too bad. they are good colour. high NOT-LEGAL. haha... but they arent that dark. one can see in or out without any issues. however under the sunlight, the tint is very very obvious. it goes with the paint of the car (that was the plan). sadly, the pictures i took couldnt capture the tint at all.... anyway, i didnt tint the front but i got the tip 7 inches done for free. they offerent it done in silver but i opted for black.. as for the back, dont bother tinting it with the 7inch black strip as its a call for the JPJ (road traffic department) to check ur car's tint. the 7inch tint strip on the rear glass isnt legal as well!!. sigh...

the reason why i dint tint the front is because the tint up front doesnt last! they tend to have a ripple formation. any average or above average tint would do that. my sister's kelisa has the ripple formation. she spent RM200 (1USD$= RM3.48) on the windshield alone!! so dont bother with the windshield. it isnt safe at all once the ripples form. also, i spent around RM180 on the all the glasses except the front windshield. the 7inch strip was free. since my car is usually garaged im not too bothered with the ripples of fading. i have seen some severely faded glasses. my sister spent RM600 all round...and there still are ripples!! no fading though. but since ur car is almost always outside, you might want something more expensive to last a lil longer. V-kool isnt in my league though... in my case i prefer to have to change the tint every so many years if they have gone bad rather than get an expensive film.

just a tip, if your de-mister/defroster for the rear glass isnt functioning, do remove the heater stips on the glass. actually you can tell the tint shop to do that. you would have a far better finish than mine. the tint shop told me he hasnt done cars with such THICK strips in his life. it had an impact on the final finish.

    regards, dev.....

I'll save up for branded tints then. My neighbor over here got his car done in some illegally dark tint few months ago and theres bunch of tiny bubbles forming up already.

well, i dint get the really cheap tint. i just got a good deal on some slightly better quality film. when i first put on the tint it developed fine bubbles overnight. so it took it back. the guys told me to wait a few more days and see if they disappear, and they did! i guess the tint film was semi-permeable and that upon exposure to heat, the bubbles go out. kindda cool. it wasnt the case with the older films that would have bubbles getting bigger with time. only issue is i suspect the tint might fade in time. i think V-Kool is currently the best option in malaysia....

Re: malaysian 81' accord sedan brochure

I guess the Malaysian factory must have kept some colours longer than Japan, which seems to have replaced Livorno Beige with Oslo ivory for '81, (I think it was only imported here for '79).
I don't think the '79 green was nearly as nice as the '81 hampstead green, being much browner than blue.

I MUST buy & apply some window tint as well this summer, at least after '77 most Accords had some factory tint, but more tint & modern heat/UV reflective should help look after the interior better (though windscreen tinting illegal here).
Sounds like you should keep the interior really hot when applying the tint to help avoid bubbles forming later, with scratches & demister strips not helping (dad's old '73 Lancia has them laminated into the glass; barely visible unless you look really close).
Thinking I'd like a very subtle heat reflective green rather than black.

Always interesting (& often frustrating) to see all the variations offered to different markets through the brochures.

true, my car was said to have livorno beige. but when park beside a 78' hatch with livorno beige, the colour of my car seemed far lighter, suggesting it to be more an oslo ivory. as green, i too believe the 81' hampstead green looks very pretty. but the older greens seemed far too stark for my liking. however there is a 1g at my mechanic abandoned. it was an LX with hondamatic, PS and the works. hit had the similar older green. and i happen to see another when i went to kuala lumpur with the same green.

as for the tint, the ambient temperature in malaysia is ranging around 28C-29C. makes it rather hot. when initially fitted, the film seems to be void of bubbles. only after being left overnight do the bubbles increase in size. then they go down when i went under the sun again. i think the heat makes the tint expand, enough for it to increse the pores, allowing the bubbles to seep out....
