Radioshack will get really expensive really quickly. You can get a plug-n-play solution for the price of the parts at the shack.

I made all of these when I just barely figured out how to solder. Now I'm sure I could make a kick ass set of cluster and button lights.

    Re: LED Conversion Help.

i wondered . i already changed most of my dash lights to led . but i was one short. the leds i did have already had a resistor of about 570 ohm wired to each 2 of them. there is two leds and one resistor to each lighhht i took the original light out and soldered the leds and resistor to the plug. but i have got another led and im tryin to figure out what resistor size i need to use for just one led. i figured around 350 ohmsor so .but wanted input. i dont know how muchh current actually goes to eachh light.like the car runs off 12 volts but i thought maybe each light may be gettin a smaller amount of current where they plug on the circuit board

    Re: LED Conversion Help.

if you want LEDs DONT get them From Radio Shack. Insted, go to a store and buy a 50-100 strand of LED x-mas lights. Lots of colors to chose from or get the multi color strings. you will spend less then 10$ on like 60$ worth of the things. I just got a 70 strand multi color for 6.90 its got blue red green and yellow. The two packs from Radio shock are like 2-3$. Also. to mount the leds i used 1 470Ohm 1/4W resistor. trim the anode[+] side of the LED and one side of the resistor down to about 1/4" and solder the two together. Then i used some smallish shrink tubing that ended up being about 1/4" inch across after heating. Stuck a small peice over the leads and resistor so that some stuck out the bottom shrunk it and then bent the leads up to replicate the contacts on the bulbs from the dash and stuck em into the sockets. [do this with dash lights on or test the polarity of the socket first as the leds only work one way.] very cheap and easy mod. ask for pics if you want any as i will be doing some more of this prolly this weekend. These should plug directy into the sockets on the gauge cluster.
