    poor acceleration...

... i recently dropped an A18a1 in my 87 lxi with the A20a3 head.. and after the swap i have horrible power.. up until 3500-4k its as tho i push the gas half way.. then after 4k she comes alive.. could it be timing? and sometimes after a full power run if i leave it at idle it starts missing and popping (exhaust side) popping.. my only guess's are that the timing is being advanced or retarded withought the ecu telling it to.. OR the a18 is just too tiny for the 2.0's fuel mapping... opinions?

    Re: poor acceleration...

has anybody here done one of these before? is there a difference in the block deck as to possibly needing a different timing belt when using an A20a3 head?
definatley sounds like timing issue, whether valve or ign timing...
also look for vacuum leak(s) that would throw off the computer timing since the MAP senser operates on vacuum signal.

    Re: poor acceleration...

I have an A18 block with an A20A1 head. The A18 and A20 blocks are damn near identical except for bore size and serial# stamp. I had the A18 bored out to A20 specs (82.7mm) and put A20A3 pistons in. At TDC the pistons are dead flush with the block deck, so no worries there. The belts are also identical.

It really sounds like your cam or ignition timing are off. Turn the crank to TDC (from the flywheel mark) and check the cam gear to make sure the two marks line up with the valve cover surface on the head. If that's good then check the ignition timing with a light.

My bros 90 integra(b18) lagged sometimes on takeoff. I think that was a timing issue. Check your timing definitely. Sounds like it's definitely off.
